North Dakota is a lot of open prairie, but there are campgrounds around some of the larger cities and towns: Fargo, Grand Forks, and Minot, to name a few. Good Sam lists more than 50 in the state. Also, if you aren't faamiliar with it, try Federal recreation, camping and tour reservation information - Recreation.gov. It lists campgrounds operated by the Army Corps of Engineers (COE) and other agencies. COE campgrounds are usually full hook-up and for the most part, very nice facilities.

If you drop down in South Dakota, you'll probably find more availability.

Will you be going through the Upper Peninsula to gt into Michigan, or down around lake Michigan near Chicago?

Safe travels.

I just came home from North Dakota last weekend. We have some family up there in Bottineau. Looks like you will pass right through the Lake Metigoshe area. Its a state park with several camp grounds around it. We stayed at Washegum campground near Lake Metigoshe. It was very quiet, and seemed well maintained. They did not have full hook ups, just water and electric. Not a lot to see on the drive through North Dakota, but its beautiful around the lake area. We also passed through the Devils lake area, and saw several campgrounds near there but I cant vouch for any of them as we did not stay there. And like others have said, we did also see some near Grand Forks, and Fargo when we passed through.

We have stayed at a CG in Jamestown at Frontier Fort RV Park on our way to the FROG International Rally in 2012. It is not very big but you are right beside Frontier Village and the Home of the White Buffalo, also within an hour of a Minute Man Launch Facility that you can actually tour the underground launch facilities (that was a real eye opener). Have also stayed at a CG in Fargo Lindenwood CG on the way back when we came down through Michigan from Sault Ste Marie.

Maybe if you tell us your planned route through ND we can better assist you. Are you planning I-94? Or are you planning to be travelling more North than that through the State?

the devil's Lake campgrounds are good--some newer ones were being finished last year that should be ready this season. Also, some of the cities (Mandan, Minot, fargo) have city-owned and maintained campgrounds. the one in Mandan is great. If you drop down into South Dakota, there are several really good places near the Spearfish Canyon in the Black Hills. further east, check out the area around Mitchell (home of the world-famous corn Palace). We have traveled around the Dakpotas for years, and found the campgrounds to be well-maintained, quiet and reasonably priced.

I can't speak for NoDak, but if you have time, check out northern Wisconsin. Washburn and Bayfield are great (I'm from Washburn). Washburn has two public parks capable of handing rigs that are right on the lake. The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is incredible.
