Camping in Northern Alabama

I interested in anyone's experiences with camping in northern Alabama's state parks...Desoto is of particular interest. Does anyone have experiences to pass along?

Dave

Love DeSoto. See the Grand Canyon of the East when there.

As they're open year round, has anyone camped at these in the winter month?

We stayed at Monte Sano in 2012. It was absolutely stunning and big rig friendly. Very few sewer hookup sites, but we were just using the camper as a hotel. The hill getting to it wasn't any fun- had we known there was a better way (which we came down), we would have taken it.

There is a "Resort" campground in the same area, Decatur, River Country. May be better suited, and will have full hook-ups.
