They are EXTREMELY TASTY and yes, the pictured rocks boat cruise is very cool. As is the shipwrecks tour that leaves out of Munising as well.

We crossed into Canada in 2014 on the west side of Lake Superior and headed east. We camped in Provencal Parks that had only Electric hooks ups. We missed seeing a canyon east of Sleeping Giant Park but we saw many gorges and waterfalls. Enjoyed many hikes that the parks had to offer, especially the Edmund Fitzgerald Trail at Pancake Bay Park. Great 8 day trip, except for hitting a bear.

A pasty is a meat pie (not unlike a calzone, only with a pastry crust instead of pizza-type crust), containing potatoes, onions, and sometimes rutabagas. I used to work at a pasty shop in the Upper Peninsula back in the day. We lived on the darned things and anything that hit the floor came home for my dog LOL!

Is that anything like Shepherd's Pie? Have seen/tried them at Irish Pubs.

More like a folded-over and crimped pie than a pot pie. The Cornish miners in Wisconsin and the U.P. brought them to work for lunch as something handy to eat without utensils. The Finnish adopted the practice with the next wave of immigration. My boss was of Finnish ancestry and was something of a pasty expert...we used his mother's recipe with the exception of the lard in the crust (for which we substituted vegetable shortening). They were pretty awesome...not very healthy, but awesome!

It's a special crust like pie crust that uses lard. The inside is ground beef sometimes blended with ground pork, cubed potatoes, cubed rutabagas, sliced carrots, onions, salt and a pat of butter. The circle crust is filled with the meat & veggies then folded over and crimped closed. Then baked for an hour. When done, it's eaten by hand like a pocket pie or with a fork on a plate with ketchup as a sauce. Yummm! I grew up on these.
