Devil's Den State Park
Anyone been to Devil's Den State Park in Arkansas? Any steep grades to get to it? Any other comments about this Park appreciated.

I havent been to Devils Den, but have friends up there that want us to meet them at Camp Ground. I have read on this site that you need to go in on the long way route due to roads. Search this site for more info. Have fun

Try to come in on 170, 74 has some pretty good switchbacks and we would not come in that way with our 24 ft trailer, campsites are easy in, the trails are great as well, we love it there!

Would be coming in from Louisiana, may not be able to come in on 170. Is there grades on Hwy 74, will be in a class C MH.
Thanks to all for your replies.

The southern entrance has a lot of switchbacks and is steep and narrow. I would NOT take it towing anything more than a short popup. It's worth it to come in on 170, and you'll eve see signs warning not to take Devils Den Rd off of 540 with a trailer.
It's a fabulous park though, we'll worth the visit!

The hwy 170 exit is just up the interstate from the hwy 74 exit. Just adds 30 min. Driving time at the most. Camp there a least 3 times a year. We will be camping there in 2 wks

Thanks Texasblue and Joe Mc, Hwy 170 it is. Sounds like that is the way to avoid steep grades and switchbacks. Any recommended sites once your there?

Area E, full hook up 50/30 amp service.
All back in, no pull through.
The last mile to the park is a long decent to the valley floor, take your time.

I tried... They wouldn't kept us in.
I was on day 7 of a 10 day Dual Sport Motorcycle trip on the Trans American Trail (transom trail.com) and we were finishing up our westward route and planning on turning around and going home the next 2 days.
We calked Devils Den to try to get a Cabin or Tent Spaces
We were told that they "didn't want and rowdy bikers partying all night long and we were not welcome". WTF??? I guess they thought were were Hell's Angles or something. we wound up running to Ft. Smith for some parts and ended up at Mt. Magazine were we met the ranger who told us where some dirt trails we could ride in the park and beyond and had a great meal at the lodge.
Rowdy Bikers we are not... more like nerdy motorcyclists.

We go there once a year. First trip in we took Hwy 74 with our 34 foot trailer and it was a challenge. Didn't realize there was another way in. Take 170 and try to get in Loop E. As you drive down into the loop--we always stay on the right side along the creek. Beautiful park.

We have been to Devil's Den many times and will be there this July. If you want to get your satellite TV in, the sites on either side of the restroom at the ballfield are best. Otherwise, any sites in Section E are great. There are really good hiking trails, a river for fishing, a swimming pool, kayaks to rent and geocaching.
I hope you go - you should find something you really enjoy doing.
