Dodge City KS??

We need a layover spot on our way home and Dodge City KS was
suggested. I wouldn't mind looking at the "old west" for a few
hours so I'm trying to decide if we want to stop here.

Online reviews of the 2 camp grounds in town are mixed.
Some OK and some bad for both places.

Anyone here actually stayed/visited Dodge City???
Is it really worth a day layover or should we just get
a spot for the night and move on?
Remember, we don't have kids so the actor gunfight is not
that big a "draw" for us!!

Even the official City web site shows a picture of a large
long building (historical?) with a chain link fence around
it and no people in the photo!!
Also have seen recent reviews that say much road construction
on the main Hwy 50 in town.....

ANY info is appreciated!!

After reading the Woodalls forum thread here--

I think we'll just look for an overnight somewhere.
Probably the Walmart Supercenter in Garden City KS
(I called- they allow overnight RVs)

Happy Trails!

We were in Dodge City last year. Other than a gun fight you could tour the stock yard, wait for a hot sunny day to get the full flavor. I'd pass.
