Fired!!

Wow, the campground host got fired.

We are camping at Onondaga State Park and our site was right next to the campground host. This morning he was packing up preparing to leave which surprised me. When I inquired about what he was doing he told me that he had been told to leave and that he could no longer host. And not just at this campground, he can no longer be a host at any MO state park. You have to wonder just what the heck he did to get fired from a volunteer job.

Was there a fee for staying at the campground? If he was gathering the fees maybe he was pocketing some of them. If someone else came through and counted how many rvs and the amount of money. Otherwise I don't see how you could get fired. Just my thoughts.

The one farther in at site 33. He has been a campground host for MO at various parks since 2003. I don't know what happened but it came quickly. Yesterday when we checked in he was a host and told me he would be here until September. This morning he's told to pack up and git.

There isn't a campground host at the site by the woodshed either. At the present time both campground host signs have a trash bag covering them up. The woodshed site has a hybrid trailer in it and site 33 has already been filled by a popup. I don't think there is a campground host in the park as I write this.

That does seem unusual, although the park is probably not at liberty to say anything more.

Just in case anyone is looking to fill the spot, here's the job description of a camp host for this park. I've always wondered what they all do. Quite a bit apparently...

When we were there last month the host at Site 33 told us that the other Host (by the woodshed) had some medical issues. Don't know what happened to have been fired ..................

I can only think of four things that could get somebody booted so quickly, a racial comment, a sexual comment, theft, or ticking off a politician's relative.

On a different note. It's really nice to have free Internet access here at the park since we can't get a cell phone signal here.

Yesterday my wife and I took the Cathedral Cave tour. If you don't mind a 1/2 mile hike to the cave entrance it's definitely worth taking the tour.

The regular duties look to be what you'd expect...the other possible duties that may be required look a little ridiculous given that all you get in return is a free site which is $23/night for water/hydro.

BTW, we stayed there one night on our way to Arkansas in May...looked like a very nice state park.
