Hwy 69 Texas thru Oklahoma road conditions

Has anyone traveled recently from the Texas state line north through OK to Big Cabin on Hwy 69? The last time we used this route it was very rough, should we plan on going another way? Thanks!

Taken it all the way to I40 when going to daughters place in Arkansas. Nice drive all the way to there from Dallas (75). Stay on 69 when 75/69 split at Atoka.

Came through there in July. Not too bad. There are some rough spots and you have to contend with the small towns. I guess all in all it is better than any alternative.

I pulled my trailer up it in August on the way to Goshen and it was MUCH better than it was 10-12 years ago when I used it as a dealer trade driver for a large GM store. Back then, it would loosen your teeth but I had no trouble in August. I got off at Adair south of Big Cabin in August.

I was on 69 between I40 and TX and thought it was still bad. Bounced me up and down the road for parts of it.

It is not that bad. Have not pulled an RV on it, but last time there was road construction.

Haven't found many roads in OK that aren't rough. But 377/99 seemed pretty good. will be on 69 later and check it out.

We came down 69 in September from Big Cabin to McAlester and it shook us the whole time. The Indian nation turnpike wasn't much better in my opinion.

We run 177 between Dickson and Shawnee both directions about 5x per year - although never with our trailer. The road is straight as a string... fairly smooth... one lane each way for the most part... some passing lanes in places... speed limits 60-65 mph... only 3-4 small town slow-downs plus one drop to 50 mph where there appears to be no town. Stratford has a single 4-way stop as does Asher. Sulphur has a 25 mph zone on the south end through the Chickasaw park area.

Thumbs up

Thanks much Mr. Dan. I appreciate all the details. Planning a route from Austin to minimize time on I35 on my way north and US177 looked like a good alternative in OK.

We run up to Wes Watkins Lake (McCloud) a couple of times a year for a field trial north of Meeker.

I'm guessing you go to Madill and then over to Dickson. Is this better than 35 to Norman then 9 going east?

Just looking for a better route than OKC.

Once again I'll say Oklahoma roads suck.

Yes, we live near Sherman, TX and it's roughly 45 miles west to I35... then we'd have to drive back east several miles to get to Shawnee. So we use US82 from Sherman west to Whitesboro and pick up US377 to Madill then over to Dickson and straight up to Shawnee.

When we lived near I35 in Denton county, we drove it north and got off at Davis and went east to Sulphur to hit 177 OR we got off at Paul's Valley and went east to Stratford to go north on 177.

I don't understand the difference then. I drove 62 mph on cruise control and didn't even have a plastic cup out of place.

US 69

Just drove US 69 from Big Cabin to McCalister pulling 25 ft travel trailer.
Road is very rough even the left lane. Indian Nations turn pike is a bit better.
