I 35W Fort Worth area

October of 2017 was the last time we passed through the construction area on the north side and we marveled at the progress the road builders had made, at least going south bound.
Now we are getting ready for our journey back the mid west for the summer and early fall months and we are asking if any one who has traveled this way recently can give us a report on the progress going north. We plan to travel on Sunday, April 29th.

Thanks, Dave

I would suggest you bypass the downtown stretch by using I-820.

Bottlenecks typically occur when crossing I 30 until 183 split, at N.E. 28th and with the junction of 820 until 287 split. If you hit it early it may be clear. Most of the main construction is overnight and stops at 5am but has been late a few times.

Volvodriver, I live a few miles west of the Cabela's in North Fort Worth and travel 35W a few times a week. While it's getting better all the time and I'll go to downtown in my pickup I still won't tow my 5th wheel thru. It's just to much of a PIA in my opinion.

We take 820W around and the only hassle is when you transition back to 35W on the north side and actually it isn't a big deal. Google maps says it's about 10 minutes longer going around but that is w/o traffic so again, in my opinion it's a wash.

Kind of an edit;

If you're coming up I-45 and cutting off at 287 to FTW you might also consider 820E/N.

Take 820N when it transitions from 20 and at the top get on the tollway going west. When it connects back to 35W there is an exit for the new tollway onto 35W tollway and it goes up to about N Tarrant Parkway.

BTW;
When you get to Denton while you're on the entrance ramp put your left blinker on and as quickly as you can get into the 2nd from the left lane. There is almost always a huge snafu with all the people taking the 380 exit.

Not knowing exactly which direction you are coming from or exactly where you are going, it's had to give you advice, but...I live on the northwest side of Cowtown. It is better if you are traveling east or west on Loop 820, because of the toll way entrances/exits that are before the interchange. North and south is still iffy because of the construction before and after 820. There is still a ton of construction almost all the way south, to the 35/30 split.
If you are going toward Missouri-ish, I'd cut over on 20 to 75 and head up though OK. Going to Columbus in May, for the month and am going that way vs the Kentucky/Tenn route, to avoid the construction up that way.

Lol! Don’t come back too soon. We are 24 degrees and snow in Iowa with 12” plus further north. Spring is coming. I know it is but right now it appears to be January 96th.

We recently came thru with the 5er. A couple slow spots. No real problems. Keep your eyes open because signage can change.

Obey the law

Left KOA Livingston this past Thursday and was heading home. Reache I35 and the construction and was on the feeder coming up to a stop sign. I rolled the stop because construction was on the left and no one was in the intersection on the right. I was issued a citation for failure to come to a complete stop. Over $600 because fines double in a construction zone. Just rolling a stop sign like everyone else. Be aware.

Early February we came that way going back to Minnesota. We went through on a Sunday and flew right through.

Thanks to all who replied to my post. Some times I think road builders hope to retire on what ever road they are building or modifying. Having lived in Austin for 25 years before we went full timing in 2013 I saw and experienced first hand the 45 and 130 toll roads being built and the 20 plus years of rebuilding highway 71 (Ben White) from Oak Hill to east of the airport.

It never ends

Hey Volvodriver I was through there yesterday midafternoon. Construction is better than it has been but;

From about the I-30 interchange up to about 183 (28th st) there is major construction. It's about 3 1/2 miles of tight no shoulder 3 lane road. I went through about 2:30 and had to stop twice due to congestion.

If it were me I'd probably take 820W around FTW, it might take a few minutes more but you'll have zero pucker factor to deal with. My .02

I think I 820 is just as fast. One thing not mentioned is the construction areas are confusing even if you go through during a low traffic time. Lanes are temporiarly rerouted, leaving confusing lines on the road surface. Many highway signs are temporary and mounted in odd locations. Exits are often poorly labeled. Etc etc. These things are not a problem if you are familiar with the route, but very confusing otherwise. I 820 is well marked.

P.S. We really like the Winstar Casino RV Park just across the river in Oklahoma. They have a huge parking lot on the south end if you're self contained or full hookups and huge pull thrus in the park.

Make a reservation if you're going to stay in the park. They are slammed with snowbirds migrating north.

Thanks for replying. So a lot of folks are advocating 820 around FTW. Do I get off 35 at 20 and follow 20 west until it meets 820? Never been that way, just went straight on through on 35W the many times we have passed. For years always used the brewery as a marker for entering the city. Now the city is at least 10 or so miles south of it.

Yes. Just after the brewery you'll exit to 20 West. Follow around to West loop 820 North (just don't take Abilene split off). It's well marked and you will have smooth sailing until you meet up again with 35 North.
