I-65 from Indy to Gary

This road is total crap. It is massively under construction and meanwhile will do its best to try to destroy your tires if not your whole RV. Some of the "potholes" (generally road section joints and bridge approaches) are totally bone jarring. Huge number of dead tire treads along the shoulders. Suggest taking some other route. Any other route!

We drove I-70 essentially from Pittsburgh to Indy and it was nothing like I-65. Maybe some other sections are worse.

We drove that section and also I-65 from Indy to Louisville a year ago. It was terrible south of Lafayette then. We went around the loop west of Indy, instead of through town, and got caught in a construction jam where I-65 and the loop interchange. All-in-all, that section of I-65 was the worst Interstate highway we have been on in the last year and a half. And that's saying a lot because we have camped in 22 states and 3 Canadian provinces during that time period.

I 70 in Indiana is the worst section of road between Cleveland, Ohio & Phoenix, AZ. We drive it twice a year, and next time we will use another road. Can't do much over 55 - 60 MPH if one wants to keep the trailer/fiver attached to the TV!

Go that way all the time but never take I65. Check out a map. 52/41 to the west of I65 parallels I65. Dual lane all the way and great pavement if you don't mind a stop light every 10 to 15 miles, most of which are almost always green. Also a twentieth of the traffic you will find on I65. Found that route 20 years ago by following truckers when I80 was under reconstruction. Be sure to take the 52 bypass around Lafayette to avoid city traffic. Usually cut over in 17 south of Lowell to Illinois 1, which takes you north to 394. Connects to I80 just inside the Ill/Ind line. Hope this helps. I'll never take I65 again in northern Indiana.

I'll agree with I-70 in downtown Indy as the worse section of road in the country! Out 12k miles on the GTown this year, that is the worse I've come across. The rest of I-70 wasn't too bad.
