Illinois (Mississippi Palisades SP) or Iowa (Bellevue SP)

Looking to go to either state park listed mid September. Saw negative reviews of Mississippi Palisades on RVParky.com site about how RV sites not maintained. Should I be concerned?

Need anyone's experiences with either park or something else in the area.
Thanks in advance.

(going in a 31' travel trailer and needing elect. hook-up)

I’ve been to Palisades many times. October 2017 most recent stay which was soon after it was flooded (mud slide) from heavy rains. There was a section that got hit pretty bad but it was being repaired with all new electric and new base for pads. That section could still be closed for all I know.

Didn’t stop me from making reservations there again this October.

I read that review....I don’t agree with it.

Do you remember what section it was? Or maybe those sites will not be available for reserving...
Thanks for the insight.

Look up Thompson Causeway. It's about 20 minutes south of Mississippi Palisaides . It is an Army Corps of Engineers campground. Very affordable with all concrete pads. Right on the Mississippi River. Highly recommend.

I know my favorite site 81 was wiped out and that was about the end of the damage. I walked up to about 123, I think, and they were the same. The creek runs behind that line.

Thomson Causeway is really nice but I’d probably pass if all I could get was 1-53 or 79-97.

Fisherman’s Corner is another good one if you can get in 1-25.

Galena has their big event on Columbus Day weekend.

Palisades is very convenient. Gals shop and us guys eat.

Hi,

Palisades is nice, but in recent years maintenance seems to have declined along with Illinois' financial situation.

We tend to go to the Corp parks on either side of the river. Cheap, well designed, and clean.

Fwiw.

Been to all three.

1- Thomson is best. On the river with great views. Best price / Best sites book fast (6mo. window)

2- Belleview - On the river and has a nice restaurant. You will need an extension, their power poles are 6' in the air and 30'-40' away from the pads.

3- MP - Not impressed with care of sites. Bring your lawn gear. It does offer better seclusion but not on the river (for view).
