Interstate 80 in Nebraska

Traveling through Nebraska? We got onto I 80 west of Ogallala NE and got off of it in North Platte NE because the road was so rough and busy with semi's. We took an alternative route US highway 30 that parallels I 80 to the north. Road was a dream! Smooth, not narrow and very little traffic. Got off it in Grand Island, NE. Enjoyed slowing down to go through all those small towns.

I have always driven US Rt 6 that parallels I-80 to the south, from Lincoln west to Denver. Very nice drive, at least it was the last time I drove it in 1999... I always stop in Minden at the Pioneer Museum... so much to see.

Fort Kearney campground south of Kearney and I-80 is a nice state park with beautiful color this time of year. Most of the sites are near various ponds (sand pits). Close to the Platte river, there is a nice paved bike trail that takes you to and across the river. Maybe you will see some Sandhill Cranes, as this is part of their flyway.
