LA State Parks may not have swimming pools this year

Our Lt. Governor has announced that he is closing all but one of the Louisiana state park swimming pools this year due to budget cuts to the parks.

Just letting my forum buddies know in case ya have plans/reservations. You are supposed to be able to get a refund if you have already made reservations.

However, to be honest, I read this just about every year, and it never comes to fruition. I almost consider it saber rattling, to get the populace involved to twist their legislators arms to not drop the money.

Louisiana parks will have layoffs, closures due to midyear budget cuts |

Thanks wmtire. We always jump in the lake but I know some of the State Parks don't have swimming areas.

The sites are cheap enough that they could go up $5 per site. They would have all the extra money they need. I love state parks, but some in LA need a lot of fixin' up.

Just a note as to State Parks, the same discussion is going on in Tenn. Biggest loser of money in TN State Parks are the swimming pools! Each day 6 life guards are needed! I think back to swimming when I was a kid there'd be 1! On really busy days 2....

Isn't it interesting that when money is tight the first things to get cut are things like parks, emergency services and education. They never cut the lavish trips and dinners for themselves.

On a lighter note, out of the 5 state parks we frequent in SE LA, the only one with a pool is Bayou Segnette near NOLA, the others just have spash parks for the kids if any at all. Steve
