Memphis Tennessee Area Campgrounds?

Headed to Memphis after Thanksgiving.... anybody have a recommendation for a campground near Memphis? We will be looking near I-40/I-240 area as that is where my brother lives.

Tom Sawyer is an excellent campground and great choice. To give you another option though, the Agricenter in Germantown, TN is an event center with a lot of RV sites and some are full hookup sites.

Memphis Campgrounds

We have stayed at Tom Sawyer R.V. Park twice. Hated it both times. Pretty sleazy area to go thru to get to it. No security lighting, all dirt, no grass. Best I remember there were no tables. The last two times we were in Memphis we stayed at campground behind Heart Break Hotel. Great area with security, pullthrus, walking distance to Graceland.

We stayed at a Army Corps of Engineers campground. There are a few of them and they all have water and electricity but no sewer although there is a dump station. The sites are roomy, paved and level. They are always on a lake with many lakefront sites which are the most popular. Best of all is the price of $24.00 and they accepted our National Parks senior pass for a 50% discount. Plus the showers are clean but not the newest and the grounds are well maintained. Only about a 15 minute drive to downtown.

A few years ago we stayed here as well for 2 nights. Pretty impressive right on the Ole Miss - As long as the creek doesn't rise. It s a Good Sam Park and located in (I think) West Memphis Arkansas. Short drive over bridge to Tenn

That whole area is pretty sleazy. Don't know about Tom Sawyer, but it does get good reviews. We broke down last week in West Memphis and limped up to the Memphis Area KOA. It's at Exit 14 off I-55 just north of I-40. Since we didn't have a reservation and it was an emergency, we stayed two nights in a W/E only site with 30A service, in the front, close to the interstate. Surprisingly quiet, even with the traffic noise. Very clean, nice folks running the place. Full hookup sites are in the back and closer together but still pretty good for the price.

And I almost forgot....if you drive I-40 headed west out of Memphis, stay in the left lane until you get at least 20 miles into Arkansas. The roads are terrible, which contributed to our breakdown. Just east of the truck parking area the right lane was do rough it broke the comm cable between or transmission and the main computer. Stick to the left and just let some folks be frustrated for a while. Drive safe.
