Glad to see the ideas for Michigan camping as we plan to go there following the Goshen Rally. I worked at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island the summer of 68 and would love to see it again.

We might be right behind you after Goshen. We are planning to camp the following week up thru Michigan till we get home south of Houghton. The U.P. we know pretty good but the L.P. Michigan along Lake Michigan I'm lost. So far, we're winging it. I guess I will watch the threads.

Mr. Ed

From Goshen we traveled to Manistee and camped at Maston's Big Manistee River RV Park. I couldn't convince my husband to go to one of the state parks. This is a fishermanb's paradise with the river frontage. Very peaceful and quiet, but very, very remote. Today we drove to Traverse City where we are camped in the Traverse City State Park. Very nice. Enjoyed a walk o n the beach today. We will be here two nites. I am looking at the postings about the other parks in the UP as we will go there after Machinac Island.

We are behind you from Goshen. In Holland last night and tonite. Heading for Traverse City tomorrow and Machinac City after that. Let me know what to stay away from and where to go. Staying in Good SAMs CGs. DW needs WIFI. If you found a super site, I'll take it over when you leave it.

Good thing about camping in Michigan is that most of the state campgrounds a nice. Only one I've been to in the u.p. is j.w.wells state campground in Cedar River. The Michigan dnr Web site had a good search function for campgrounds.

We are in the Mackinaw KOA for three nights on the way home from Goshen. An older, less frenetic KOA than many! Sites are smallish but well treed. Off the Mackinac Island tomorrow.

I was thinking about that KOA for Thursday night. Is it worth it?

If your in Mackinac City, make sure and hit Darrow's for whitefish.. or Scallywags! Good stuff! if in St Ignace, grab the whitefish sandwich at Bentley's B n L Cafe (50's themed and GREAT food!!)

Not the fanciest KOA, dirt sites and somewhat up and down, but perfectly pleasant. Depends on what you need and expect. Full hookups and wifi, pool and cable, but we have our own hotspot so don't know what the wifi is like. Lots of trees which we like. Everything from pop-ups to 40'+ coaches here.

Got to Traverse City tonite and found a nice campground. It was the Holiday Campgrounds 6 miles south on M31. Very clean and well groomed with nice lots and premium sites that are awsome. I'll be back again.
