Michigan camping advice?

We have never been camping in Michigan but hear it is a great place to go.

Anyone living there or visited that can give us the name sof some good places to park the 5th wheel, it would be greatly appreciated.

Would really like to be as close to Lake Michigan as possible - either state park or private campground is good.

Thanks!

It is beautiful on the west coast. Platte River State Park is a great place to stay, its by the Sleeping Bear Dunes. Ludington State Park is also a great place. My parents had a blast is Leland at Welcome To Lake Leelanau RV Park In Lake Leelanau Michigan last year. They carry a zodiak type inflatable boat and were able to pull their boat right on their site. Its a really cool old fishing village that's a bit of a hidden gem.

Lake Macatawa in Holland State Park is nice, you also have Silver Lake and the Sand Dunes, and Hoffmaster State park by Muskegeon. Then farther up the coast Luddington State Park. They are all reated up towards the top of the list in the state. They start taking reservations 6 months out and the fill up quick I hope that this helps with your search. DNR - Camping & Recreation

Spent most of my time in Michigan on the lake, running private salmon charter out of Pentwater. There is plenty to see where ever you go. If there during the season, go salmon fishing, hooking a King or Steelhead is always worth it!

by far the nicest park we have ever stayed, and the sights in and around are the best in the united states, tons of waterfalls, picture rock is awesome, and the glasss bottom tours are great. we are going back this summer. try to get a spot on the west side of the campground on the water, 30 feet from waters edge

Traverse City state park is a great place. Right in the middle of a great city sits a pine forest. Bike trail behind. Beautiful beach on Traverse Bay in front. Sites are a little small but no parking pad so you can adjust to what works best for you. Great location to explore wine country, etc.

That's the site we got. Full hookup on the lake was full, but I was able to get w/e on the lake. We're very excited even though we did Pictured Rocks a couple years ago. I really want to go on the glass bottom boat.

It is a nice park and the Beach is great you just don't want to go on a holiday weekend it took me 23 minutes to make a left hand turn out of there to go up into town and the day we left it took an hour and. Half to get on 72 east of there roughly 3 miles

Fort Wilkins, Copper Harbor, is a old 1860's copper mining fort with camping on both sides of the fort. It is a state park with a lot of events all summer. The town is also geared up with weekend fun and games. This is at the tip of the Keweenaw Penisula on Lake Superior.

If you want to go into the UP you need to go to Fayetteville State Park. It has an old town complete with graveyard and all within the park. It is right on the water and the beach is beautiful.

Straits State Park in St Ignace. In the UP overlooking the Straits and the Mackinac bridge. Free shuttle service to the ferries to Mackinac Island.
