Lots of nice things to do in the La Crosse, WI area when coming from Minnesota with the Great River Road...Grandad Bluff, there is a riverboat tour that was very nice. Northwoods league baseball games are always a blast too! They may have teams in multiple areas you visit. They are all college kids that come up here to play in the summer. We stay at Lake Neshonoc Resort when we go that direction (We'll be there in 2 weeks) In Tomah, just east of La Crosse on your way to the Dells there are Cranberry Bogs and a lot to do with that! Of course we have brewery tours out the wazoo...and kids are invited to most. A few along the way would be Pearl Street in La Crosse and Sand Creek in Black River Falls.
The Dells is a whole different animal. Lots of touristy stuff to do (Think Branson without all the shows and more water parks!) Make sure you get reservations and beware almost everywhere will have a 2 night minimum...3 nights on Labor Day weekend. We like staying at River Bay (We're heading there THIS weekend) just north of the Dells because it comes with waterpark passes to Chula Vista resort a short drive away, as does Holiday Shores.
Beyond all the touristy stuff in the Dells, there is a great recreational area no too far from there called Devil's Lake State Park. You can also take the free ferry across Lake Wisconsin to get there (Without your camper)
If you want, let us know your interests and I can narrow it down a little bit more for you, at least on the Wisconsin side of the border. Also, where do you plan on crossing from MN to WI...Different areas of the state offer lots of different things and different types of camping.
