More Michigan help...Mackinac Island

Spent time this summer in Mackinac City. And the upper peninsula.
There is so much to see and do. Three days will not do it justice. We stayed at the Mackinac City Mill Creek Campground. Overlooks the bridge and the island.
Very nice family run. Free shuttle to the ferry to the Island. You should take in the fort in Mackinac city. A whole day for the Island. Take the carriage tour. You can stay as long as you like at any stop, then catch the next carriage.
You should tour the historic buildings down town. And the fort. And the Grand Hotel.
North of the bridge is magical. The Soo locks, the tower view, the freighter museum, the boat tour of the locks, all worth the trip. Then within an hour is tahquamenan falls and. Oswald Bear Ranch this family has dedicated their lives to bear rescue. A must see. There is so much more.

Stay as long as you can. Enjoy the area. We will be exploring the western upper peninsula next summer.

So as usual... Sounds like a change in plan. Sounds like we might be staying in the Mackinaw City instead of moving to St Clair for this trip. For those that did the ship wreck museum, is it 3 year old friendly and about how long did it take to get though? Just trying to find a happy median between a cool museum for us and an attention of a 3 year old..

The U.P. of Michigan just keeps going on and on. Follow Lake Superior to Keweenaw Peninsula for a historical tour. Lots to see!!!

The ship wreck museum is off whitish point. Not that large but very interesting. On the way to Tahquamenan falls from the Sault Saint Marie The Soo.

Section dedicated to the Edmonton Fitzgerald sinking. Not too far off shore.

Could go on...after the falls then the Oswald Bear Ranch near Newberry.

Then Pictured Rocks Boat tour. The Keewanaw peninsula...Could go on and on.

The upper peninsula has its own tourist guide.

We stayed at the KOA in Potoskey then drove up to the island in 2011. I agree that 1 day for the island would be sufficient. Also agree about the Pictured Rocks boat tour. Lake Superior is beautiful.
We are planning to go back again.Probably 2017. Also like Frankenmuth too.

If you have the time, the west coast of Mich. has a lot going on, also. Great coast cities and Sleeping Bear dunes. Lake Michigan coast is awesome!

We stayed at Mackinaw Mill Creek on the water front and found the sites were very small. I think the sites in back are bigger.

I hope that you have a great time? We love the area and have an RV
lot that we own in Cedarville, MI UP. We try to spend several months there during the summer.

So after seeing the numerous places to be visiting.. We are scrapping the two campground approach and will make this two trips.

We are going to do the Locks / Mackinac Island regions as our first trip and return for the ST Claire area at a later trip. There is just too much to see and do for this to be shortened to allow for both stops this trip.

Thanks for all your advise and places to see, keep it coming, we are making a list!

If you are going to do it in two trips, really consider the lake Michigan coastal areas. Beautiful and much diversity.

When in Mackinac City you should eat at the Bridgeview Diner. Most fresh and delicious.
