Elkhorn Ridge rv park is outside Spearfish and right off the interstate. We stayed there once for the bike rally in August. Great campsites but maybe kinda pricey.

We will be there the first week of June in our Forester River C Class D2861 - we are also brining our sedan since we found car rental is not budget friendly nor easy to obtain without dragging our camper all over the place. We made the reservation in March. Coming from Cleveland, Ohio. This is my husband's bucket list...we will be heading out west to Yellowstone and Grand Canyon.

You will need the car if you want to see the Needles and Iron Mt. road since it has narrow roads with small tunnels and cork screws. If your like wildlife do take the wildlife loop thru Custer park to see the burros, bison, big horn sheep and pronghorns.
If going to the Grand Canyon reserve at Trailer Village campground on the edge of the South Rim. Or Grand Canyon Railroad RV Park in Williams and take the train to GC.

Don't forget about the bike rally in Sturgis, it's Aug. 3-9 but usually is busy the week before and the week after. It's the 75th anniversary and they're expecting over a million people. So if you don't like crowds I'd steer clear!
