Petit Jean State Park. AR

We are planning a trip to Petit Jean in March. We will have 2 RVs and wish for side x side spots. The Google maps aren't real helpful and Arial photos are blocked by trees. I was hoping for some sites that might be recommended by others.

What I do know... Loop A is booked. Loops B, C and D are available. Have no preference to 30/50 amp sewer or not. Prefer close to shower house. Back in or pull through is fine. Need 40 ft or more.

Any suggestions?

Call the Park campground direct and ask them for help, they are very friendly there. 501-727-5441. good luck I usually book my dates there a year ahead to get the sites I want

Petit Jean State Park

Wonderful place. Of course A section is the best. B section next to the main highway has mostly good spots, the rest of B is close quarters but we have gotten our 40 ft in on the two next to the bathhouse in B section. Can't tell you about the other areas they are very wooded but have seen larger units in those sections. They do have what they call an overflow section, 30 amp water but no sewer, but B section does not have sewer either only A. Overflow is a nice open area with some but not many trees, you would have to use the bath house either in A or B.

We only camp in “A” with the RV. Only “A” has sewer hook ups. We have driven through “B” and it has electric and water hook ups. It was a bit rough but still okay. We probably would not even consider “C-D” because they are even more rough. Lake Dardenelle on the Russellville side has a nice campground also. There we usually camp in “C”, I think that has a nice loop lake side near the marina. Petit Jean unless you get lucky and call everyday and catch a cancellation, to get “A” and two close to each other, reservations are usually made a year in advance.

Where are you coming from? Are you coming for a particular rally or just to visit Beautiful Arkansas?

We went last year, nice and clean and roomy. Call them, I made reservations online. It showed a lot of the sites reserved but when we got there a large number of them were empty. If you are a senior tell them to get a discount.

If you trying for the week of March 18 through 22 be aware that this is for spring break in Arkansas schools. So getting a spot maybe a challenge this late in game.

Thank you for the additional inputs. We chose sites 109 and 110. We will only be there the 7-10th. We are coming from Texarkana...about 3 hours I think.
There were lots of sites available, but we were looking for a pair that were close together. We will see what we end up with.

I know one thing. The pictures of this place are beautiful. I am old and fat....and I am looking forward to some of those trails.

Thank you again for the assistance...maybe we will run into some of you guys someday.

Hmm. I assume I am going I30E to 70/9 to 154. Is that a mistake?

Not really. I would suggest picking up 10 east out of Perry then north on 324 to 154. 20 is really good highway as is 324. That will take you in the back way. The climb will have wider roadway and not quite as radical a climb. When you come to 154, take right to the office. 154 out of Oppello is very narrow when you start the climb. About a half mile past your site is a small store that has fudge that we thought to be awesome...even the sugar free. Oppello is 12 miles east and is closest gas station, reasonable. Hope you have as good a time as DW an I have had.

Thanks a bunch. I will plan the trip that way.

You have to visit that store. They have all kinds of things you don't normally find. But definitely try their fudge. I love the jalapeno fudge.

Route to Petit Jean

I agree with the directions posted by hshaynes, we come from the west down Highway 10 then 154. It is a little steep but not near what it is coming in the other way, agreed the road is much wider and easy to manage with a large unit. We love this place mostly because it is peaceful and we go the two busiest times of the year during the car show and swap meet. Lots of things to do. Lots of Antique shops and be sure you visit Morrilton shops too. Enjoy your stay you will like it, agreed ask for the senior discount, we are out of state from Arkansas so we pay a higher rate but do get the senior discount.,

Route to Petit Jean

Actually let me give you the directions we take.
Highway 10 west out of Perry just past a little community called CASA is highway 155 turn to the right (the only way) that highway will dead end on highway 154 turn right and that will take you directly into the park. This does take you in the back way to the park. All of these roads are in good shape and easy to travel.

I don't know where the other person is getting highway 324 not familiar with that highway. We do have friends that travel in a 42ft motor home and they come up 154 out of Oppello without a hitch, but we don't like it, very steep and does get narrow especially on the curves.
