Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas

Has anyone been to Petit Jean SP in Arkansas? We are headed there for 5 nights next week and would like any tips anyone has to offer. Thanks.

I like Petit Jean, and we were just there last Labor Day Weekend. They told us then that they were going to be closing Mather Lodge and it's restaurant till 2012 to build a new kitchen....which is a shame because their all natural beef hamburgers were first rate.

I liked the car museum there, and of course all the hiking trails and the waterfall. There are several guided hiking tours, and I suggest taking some.

You'll run out of things to do at the park and I recommend driving over to Mount Magazine State park to check out their views and lodge/restaurant ...and make sure to take the half mile hike all the way to the top, so you can say you have been to the highest point in Arkansas.

I like Mt Nebo State Park (between Petit Jean and Mt Magazine), for the views and the 'two miles of wild' switchback drive to the top. You can't pull too much of a camper up this, so it's best to make sure you aren't hooked up.

I'm big on collecting hiking stick medallions, which each of the parks has in their gift shops.
