If you do decide to take i-55 south from Jackson. There is one little tip I need to tell you about exiting from i-20 to 55 there and you have to be in the correct lane

I can't speak about the other routes, but US 65 north out of Conway, AR is good road. It is mostly 2 lane but in really good shape. There is construction on going at different places but not much of a problem
A few places to pull off and enjoy the scenery. Watch your speed thru Damascus.

A new little twist, we are considering going up eye 55 to Memphis Tn. and stay a night or so at Tom Sawyers RV park. What do I need to know to accomplish this ..? should I take 240 around to the west? all help appreciated.

Did you decide if you were going to take I-20 to Jackson, then I-55 south? The reason I ask is you need to be aware of the exit there. These pics may help. I am going to edit this post so it may take minute to get it all done.

First off, As you come into Jackson you are going to see I-55 North and I-55 South signs. This is because I-55 is not continuous thru Jackson and actually shares an east/west part with I-20.

You need only concern yourself with I-55 South and there will two exit lanes off of I-20 for this both going to 43A and 43B. Since I-20 is kinda running north south itself at this point as you can see from the map below for 43A/43B. You would prefer to be in the left most lane of the exit ramp if you can, but you are good for either one at this point. You will need to get in the left hand lane as fast as you can though

The reason you need to be in the left hand lane, as when you come up to exit 43B, the right hand lane circles back north to Terry road. You will have to take the Terry Road exit if you have not managed to get back in the left lane by then. Depending on traffic and how fast this happens (it's just a few seconds), you will get forced off if not in the left hand lane. Been there done that.

If you managed to stay or get in the left hand exit lane, then you are good to go to come on around and merge into I-55 south

Yep, get off at exit 43A/B and stay or try to get in the left most exit lane.

When you do come back north to go to Memphis, remember that I-55 runs concurrent with I-20 east for a bit in Jackson, so you will get back on I-20 east then take I-55 North exit (exit 46). Jackson (and Vicksburg) has several left hand exits like exit 46 is (see pic). As I always teach my kids, pay attention to the exit number signs locations on the top of the large signs. If it's aligned on the left hand side, it's a left hand exit....and if it's aligned on the right hand side, it's a right hand exit. (or supposed to be)

The Ameristar Casino in Vicksburg is just north of I20 and you can stay at their RV park free with a players card (at least we did). They will bus you to the casino and the food and the view of the river was pretty good. Beware! The RV park is very easy on and off of the Interstate with a fuel stop at the intersection BUT, the park is adjacent to the railroad that crosses the river and trains pass every 15 minutes alternating directions. If you like trains, this is the place!
