recomended campgrounds within 2 hours of KCMO?
Looking for nice campgrounds within a couple hour drive of KCMO. Recomendations?
We are new to camping as a family, though I camped with a pop-up many times as a kid. Want our first few outings to be nice for the wife and kids before we get more adventourous and explore.

Visit the Missouri state parks web site and choose one!!
Missouri has a ton of great parks.

Check out Watkins Mill State Park. It is just a short trip up I-35 to the park. It has a old woolen mill, house, and several other things that you can tour. It also has a nice sized lake with a hiking/biking trail around it.
Arrow Rock SHS is east of KC off I70. It has a really nice visitor center and lot's of historical things from the mid 1800's.
I have been to both and plan on going back to both. Check out mostateparks.com. There is alot of information and a online reservation system linked to the site.

The wife and I were at Wallace State Park about 10 days ago. Our first visit there ever. It is just a little bit further north of Watkins Mill SP on I-35. We have visited 12 state parks this year and camped in 5 of them. Wallace State Park is by far our first choice. Restrooms/showers are spotless and great water pressure. Lots of room between the campsites--especially in campground #2. Lots of trails--not a large lake but a Boy Scout troop was there in canoes. We live about 30 minutes south of KC and this will be our new weekend, quick getaway spot.

Thanks for the info. We are going to hit Lake Jacomo this weekend. It is very close, and the kids have soccer games Saturday morning at Legacy right around the corner. We will try one of these in the next few weeks.

There are a few nice parks near Truman Dam (Headed to Warsaw). Just stayed at Long Shoal. I've been at Truman State Park and Bucksaw. Of the three, Truman SP is my favorite (Raccoon Ridge).

We had a great 4 nights at Basswoods RV park in May. Just north of KC airport, at Platte City exit.

Went to a wedding a few years ago in K C. Stayed at a Watkins Mill State Park, north of K C. Had to be one of the nicest state parks I have ever stayed in. Wayne
