Rend Lake, Illinois

Hey all,
We're considering a trip to this lake as it will be a good meeting place to camp with our friends from Chicago. Anyone have any good or bad experiences with any of the campgrounds in the area? Also we would be looking to rent a pontoon boat. Any particular marinas anyone has had good or bad experiences with? Between our two families we'll have 6 kids ranging in age from 3 to 8 years. Really just want to make sure it will be a good place for all of us.
Thanks for any input.

I've got no experience with that area other than passing through on my way to other destinations.
But I've seen this in that area:

I've been around the area several time but never camped. I checked into it last spring and everything seemed to fill up quick. The lake is beautiful and an hour or less drive from Murphysboro,Il and the best BBQ ive ever eaten @ 17th st bbq! This link might help

We have camped there for years. We go 2 times a year like clockwork. It is an Army Core of Engineers facility. We use North Sandusky campground but they are all nice. The sites and facilities are clean and well kept. Electric sites are $13 night. They rent pontoon boats at the resort and are very reasonable as well. There are numerous boat launches, a shooting complex, plenty of bike and walking trails. It is definitely the nicest campground we have seen in Illinois.
