RV Park vs State Park

I prefer to boondock where there is not another camper in sight.

We definately prefer the state parks over the rv park. We also love it when the parks have trails or a beach for the kids to explore. My children are older now, 19 year old doesn't go with us but the 12 yr old does and always brings a friend. We go to get away from all the running and to have some peace and solitude.

Trimming trees with my trusty backpacking bow saw is just one of the services I provide to campgrounds that have allowed their trees to grow wild, bushy, and untamed over a campsite. I actually carry three different types of hand saws for trimming foliage.

I carry a little saw like this:



Doesn't take up much space. If I can get my hands on a limb, this booger will cut it. Take my advice, keep your fingers and hands away from the saw teeth when using. If the park owners or managers won't trim'em, I will!

State parks tend to be more woodsy with space between sites. Privately owned parks are limited to taxable land thus the need to jam sites closer together to turn a profit. I have stayed in some where the previous statement wouldn't apply.

There are exceptions for every rule and rules for every exception!

What a great suggestion! Got one of those in the garage; unused for years. Never thought about throwing it in the TT. It's in there now!!

I carry a small sheet rock saw in the tool bag. Works great for intruding branches and miscellaneous sawing around the camp site.

seems the answer to "RV Parks vs State Parks" (was it a question ?) depends on whether you're a "camper" or a "tourer"

so far, with the TT we've just "camped" at State Parks - while the previously owned Roadtrek was great for "touring"

personally I'm more of a "tourer" but the Wife leans towards "camper" (so - I'm therefore a "camper" too..) - I did the "camping" bit as a teen so it bores the heck out of me now - tho the "touring" is very restricted having the 3 dogs along

and like it was suggested, RV Parks are great to just spending the night and hitting the road again the next morning - who cares if they're "close" ? .....Bill

We mostly stay in state parks...probably because here in mid-michigan we are 2-3 hrs or less from several dozen high quality SP modern campgrounds. (Modern CG= Electric with water nearby)...
but...we love it all including:

• the ocassional RV resort with Full hookup, Cable, WiFi etc.
• the 35 minutes trip west to dry camp in a local casino RV parking lot.
• the occasional night on the road at a Flying J's
• setting up in the driveway of my sister's Jersey Shore house.

We go for the state and national also but last weekend discovered this RV park in Branson, MO. Acorn Acres - quite a bit of space, wifi and cable we couldn't resist.
