That is terrible!! Campgrounds next to rivers are peaceful and beautiful but can be deadly when the water rises. I know there are those who really enjoy camping in these places as we do, but I personally prefer higher ground away from the water and above flood stage. We've been in a few tight spots during flash flood and they were scary, hence my caution.

RV park washed away in flood

A RV park in Junction Texas was washed away yesterday in a flash flood. 15 people were rescued by boat, 4 by helicopter, and four still believed missing. This was a city owned RV park with limited records, and even those records washed away, leaving the exact occupancy count unknown. I saw TV news coverage showing destroyed fifth wheelers, I'm sure still pictures will be along soon.

Do not be “fooled” by flash flood rains. Infamous in AZ. You “think” you are high above but not. Rains come hard and fast and shut the valley escape routes off. Anytime you are in or near flood zones, know your plan, how long to escape, safe haven destination not on a creek.
The US Army Signal Corps motto” THINK, GO, DO” .
My motto: God helps them who help themselves.

Do not be lulled into false safety. Safety requires work and planning for seasonal potential disasters.
