Staying at an RV park without an RV

We have yet to buy our next TT, but were really jonesing for a little trip. So we recently took a three-day weekend to Del Rio, TX. We stayed at the Sleeping Lady RV park there, in one of their cabins. It was SO fantastic, we are now questioning getting another RV!

Anybody else ever done this?

Are there cabins at all the places you want to visit??
Do you know what a bed bug is and how to check for them??
Just some food for thought......

We stayed in a cabin at Inks Lake SP TX, which was like a concrete tent with A/C. Well, it also had bunks without bedding. Wasn't too bad. A/C is important for this displaced Coloradan...

Also stayed in a Conservation Corps-built cabin at Garner SP TX. That was pretty cool.

We had seasonal sites at at CG that has cabins. They worked out nicely for some friends of ours that wanted to spend the weekend but didn't have RVs themselves still wanted some privacy of their own.

Other than a situation like that, I don't see much of a difference between renting a cabin at a CG and renting a hotel room. Especially at some of the prices I've seen for cabin rentals.

Although I guess it could depend on the amenities the CG offers.

My aunt and uncle do exactly this. They had a pop-up that they used but came to find that they liked the convenience of renting cabins. They never showed an interest in owning a travel trailer.

Yes, all of the above concerns have crossed my mind. I WILL have another TT!!

But in the meantime, these cabins are preferable to a hotel for us.

Not all campgrounds have the cabins but most do. We are members of coast to coast,so cabins are pretty cheap. We were thinking about going out West that way and leaving RV at home.

I think that the time comes for many to debate this issue. We decided on a new motorhome because we were just not ready to give up the lifestyle. I know who has used my bathroom, if I never meet a bed bug that is just fine with me and picky eaters need their own kitchen. My dog has to be with me and an elderly family member as well. Simple decision for me.

Very few state and national parks have cabins and out West, most private parks don't have them.

It probably depends on where are and where you want to go. I can think of 5 or 6 off the top of my head that are close to me that rent cabins. At least two of them rent out actual RVs.

On the other hand, I can also think of just as many that don't...

The problem for me with a cabin is having to pretty much stay on a schedule. It seems like you would have to make reservations well ahead of time in many instances. If you got to a nice place and would like to stay a few extra days, the schedule not only for where you are but also for where you were going would be messed up.

I rented a cabin for dad at a local campground while the rest of us stayed in our RVs stayed there. The cabin was great for a family get-together. The elderly was out the cold while having all of the comforts of home. None of us has units with slide-outs so space was another issue for those with walkers. Pricey but worth it. Dad's cabin had a great view of the lake and included a fire pit and BBQ.

My neighbors has rented a cabin at a KOA in San Diego and thinks that's the way to go. They enjoy staying in it while friends camp in tents and RVs.

Last year, we spent 4 nights in a deluxe cabin at Cape Lookout State Park on the Oregon Coast. Left the winterized RV at home. Packing and hauling everything we needed in our SUV really made me appreciate the convenience of having everything in the RV.

Simple decision for us to keep the TT. I like to take too much with me when we travel. Now I just buy duplicate of our favorite shoes, clothes, etc and keep them in the trailer. No need to pack unpack and pack up again! Having dogs travel with us is important too. Most cabins are not pet friendly.

Most KOA Kampgrounds have cabins for rent along with a few other private RV parks. There are also some cabins to rent in a few of the state parks in MO and IL. If I were only going to camp a few times a year I would probably consider cabins as an option.
