Staying in Milwaukee Wi

Anyone have any suggestions on a place to camp in or near Milwaukee. I'm taking my 8,7,and 3 year old kids as well as my 70 year old dad to the Harley Davidson Museum.

R. L. Bong State Rec area is down near Burlington. Not that far from Milwaukee. Pretty easy access off I-94 Nice spot. You'll probably need a reserve on Reserve America.com. as it is pretty popular place you'll see why. Not overly familiar with private CGs in that area

Milwaukee has a campground right in the city. The State Fair Campground. Best thing about it is it is on a bus line and you can leave your rig and travel throughout Milwaukee. if you are a bike rider you can hop on the Henry Aaron State Trail and ride down to the Harley Museum.
The closest State Park campground is Pike Lake State Forest which is about 45 minutes north of downtown Milwaukee. This is a small campground, 35 sites and fills up quick. Next closest would be Kettle Moraine Southern Unit, but like Bond, it is a long ride off the highway.
Enjoy your stay in our city,it is a nice place to visit.

Since you've got kids, you might want to look at the Jellystone Park in Caledonia, WI, south of Milwaukee. A little pricey, but they have a water park, etc. Could be noisy during the summer.

This guy was next to us, so you can sort of see some of the sites (He was from Sarasota FL and had several cats, hence his cats eyes):

We were there on a T/W/Th (weekdays) the last week they were open last October, so it was pretty deserted. They had had their Halloween weekend the previous weekend. Some campers really go all out for Halloween, as seen below.

I'd suggest reservations early.

State Fair Campground is great as a base. You are parked in a cement parking lot with full hook ups.

A nicer spot but further away is Cliff side County park in Racine, WI. It is about 30 minutes from downtown Milwaukee. It has electric and water but no sewer. Sites are fairly large and grassy with gravel driveway. About half the sites are reservable.

Try the pizza at DeRango, The pizza king. Less than a mile from the campground. Be sure to get a Kringle from one of the local bakeries.

The Jellystone is probably the best for the grandchildren, but we've never been there. Our grandchildren and we enjoyed Ottawa Lake Campground on Hwy 67 between Dousman and Eagle. It's a county park and has some playground equipment and a pond with sandy beach for swimming. It is in the scenic southern Kettle Moraine, Eagle, and Old World Wisconsin, which you most likely would enjoy. I know you will enjoy HD museum (even my wife did) and you will enjoy one of the music/food fests if you are in Milwaukee at the right time and you definitely should try a Kopp's custard and hamburger. Do not order more than one hamburger, no matter how hungry you are!

Ottawa Lake is a very nice State Park. It will require OP to pay out of state fees.
