Tex Ren Fest!
We spent this past weekend camping at the Texas Renaissance Festival! We usually go to the festival every year, but this was the first weekend we camped there. We dry camped in the quiet camping area.
It was pure PERFECTION!!! If you have never been camping at the Tex Ren Fest, I HIGHLY recommend it!!! The weekend couldn't have been more perfect!

So...where did you boondock? We've not yet been to the Ren Fest (5th year living in TX) but would like to give it a whirl...

Here is all the camping info: The Fields of New Market Campground | Texas Renaissance Festival
There is "main" camping and "quiet/family" camping. We stayed in the quiet/family area, within walking distance of the flush toilets and the new shower house.

We go often and are planning a trip in the next few weeks (when it cools off a bit more). We haven't been since they moved the camping to a new area. Could you tell me what the ground is like in the Quiet area? Is it pretty hard and flat, or soft with ruts, etc. I don't want my big 5er to get stuck in soft soil. Thanks!

The camping information tells you that the Quiet campground is on either side of the entrance road off of Hwy 302. So use Google Maps to find TRF, turn on the satellite view, and you can see the campgrounds next to the road from Hwy 302.

The new quiet area is what used to be the King's Orchard. Almost doubled the size last year. It's supposed to be part of a three year expansion. They planted a lot of trees in the new area last year, but it'll take years for it to make noticeable shade. The ground is just as hard as all the rest of the place, I wouldn't worry about getting stuck. I've been going since 1999 and camping for the last four years. There is still noise in the quiet area (from the main area), but it's not bad. The closer you get to "ground zero" the more you have to deal with obnoxious drunk idiots..so I usually set up right along the boundary between the two areas. That way I can walk over a be a drunk idiot myself, then go back and actually sleep when I want to.

LOL! The image looks good. The road at the very top is Hwy 302.
Thanks for the info on surface hardness.

The big yellow box labeled quiet camping is where we stayed. To be specific, we butted up in the corner at the bottom-left of the box.
There are no designated campsite spaces. It's just come in, cop a squat, and have fun! And yes, we stayed in the quiet area so we could get away from the drunken masses. Walk over to the drunken masses, dance around the bonfire, walk back to the campsite and get a good night's sleep! Also, we always take a white noise machine to drown out all the noise outside.

UGH! Forgot to mention the soil. We had no issues with getting stuck. We were along the pine tree line, so the soil was sandy, but we had no issues. Even after the rain!

We will be making our first camping trip there the first weekend of november (Pirate weekend). We drove out there for an open house they had and i have picked out a spot in the adult area. Its one of the new expansion areas/ closer to the entrance into the faire.
I purchased a new champion 3100i generator so i wouldn't have to run the loud one i picked up during IKe.
I have had friends that camped every weekend tell me some wild stories about what happens around the drum circle and the camp sites

Yeah, we got a big, loud, honkin' chunk of cheap generator for Ike, too. We happily turned it off at 10 p.m. and on at 7 a.m.

Being in Texas we are luck have three major faires and three minor or small faires. Two of the major Texas Renaissance festive (TRF) near Huston and Sherwood Forest renaissance festive near Auston both have camping Scarborough near Dallas doesn't but there is are a couple of state parks a half hour or so alway. Made two trips to TRF this season and have a third maybe a fourth planned. Camp in general camping since the walk to the gate is a lot shorter and since they have the new noise restrictions in place haven't had a problem.

I THINK they want "quiet" at midnight, even in the main camping area. Not positive, though.
