Texas beach campgrounds

Happy Holidays everyone. Thinking about spending a few days at the beach in either Texas or Louisiana sometime in March, preferably closer to home (Omaha) and quieter for a retired couple. Any recommendations or condemnations? I've looked at Sea Rim State Park in Port Arthur, TX and it looks reasonable but would love to hear others' experience.

Thanks,
Lee

We go to the beach every year. My wife and I are still teaching, so unfortunately our time off is everyone else's time off. Spring Break, 4th of July, etc. We usually go to Gulf Waters in Port Aransas. Well manicured, plenty of room. Very rule oriented when it comes to golf carts driving around the park, and rules are enforced. We love it. Even though we've always gone at peek times, it doesn't fill like it inside the park.

Neat thing about reserving online is they have photos of every site in their park on the map. Click on the map number, and up comes the picture.

We stayed in site 758 last time.

Thanks for the quick reply. I had ruled that area out thinking it was quite a bit longer a drive but, per Google maps it's only a difference of about 50 miles for us so I'll have to look into it.

We travel from NE Iowa to Mustang Island State Park just south of Port Aransas. It's quiet, just a short walk to the beach, part of which is off limits for motor vehicles. Just a short drive to groceries etc. Level sites, water and electricity no sewer hook ups, clean restrooms and showers.

We are in site 756 right now at Gulf Waters in Port Aransas! Stayed in 752 last year.

We have 2 blog posts about this place. Nicest RV resort on the island. I wouldn't say it's super kid friendly, but we do like it anyway.

The first post is under the Tour of the Gulf post. The second is the newest post.

Galveston Island State park is nice. We just stayed their back in September and it is very well kept. It's just far enough away from the main part of the island that it's relatively quite and you can go South towards Jamaica beach for supplies and it's cheaper and less populated!

The KOA at South Padre Island is super nice. This is probably way too far for y'all to want to drive. However the water at South Padre is SOOO much nicer than any of the other beaches in Texas. However, the island is starting to really become a touristy area. Best time to go is mid late September after school starts. Were going in June of this year (gotta go before the wife has a baby, she isn't pregnant yet, but were planning on it).

Jamaica beach campground on Galveston island is very nice. Spent the last three years

You will need reservations. You can drive on beach, which is,across, the road. Ron and Dora, own the park, and treat you very, good.,,The park is about 12miles from Galveston city. enjoy.

For almost on-the-beach camping, consider Dellaner RV Park in Galveston. It is run by Galvestion County. We've stayed there a few times. There are even a few sites that back up directly to the beach. There are pull-thru sites as well. The campground information is at GALVESTON.COM: Dellanera RV Park Definitely need a reservation.

There are recent reviews that are good on TripAdvisor as well:

Thank you all for the replies! Unfortunately, we won't be able to do it this year.

Sitting on the beach at Mustang Island as I type this. First time at this locale. Pretty nice. Campground is full, but beach is not overly crowded for spring break. Families and fishermen. But it's pretty cold today, may be different later this week.

Stayed at Serendipity RV Resort last December. They are under major renovations and we had to move over to Victoria Texas for January. We like to move every month or so. Ended up in Harlingen TX before having to drive to Rockford ILL (way to soon). Serendipity is right on the coast in Palacios, TX.

We've thought about staying close to a beach but I've been concerned about that fine sand getting into every component and creating issues. Is that a problem or am I just worrying?

You wont regret the KOA at SPI. We have camped there 3 times and enjoyed it each time. We always try to get a site that back up to the bay, that way you can sit at the campsite in the evenings grilling out and enjoying the sunset over the bay. My only complaint is the sites are the roomiest I've been too, but they are roomy enough to open everything up and relax with out being cramped.

Were going to SPI June 24 for a week, but were staying in a cabin so that we can take our jeep. If I have to choose between camping at KOA or driving my jeep on the beach.... with over 27 miles of beach, it's a no brainer for me!
