Texas Hill Country Campgrounds

Any one looking for a nice place to camp in the TX. Hill Country should consider Blanco State Park at Blanco, TX. There is a lot to do and see in this area. About 30 miles to Fredericksburg lots of antiques stores. The Adimiral Nimitz Museum an The Pacific War Museum also a lot of good freestone Texas peachs June through Aug. 30 miles to Wimberley and more antiques. 50 miles to San Antonio and The Alamo, 50 miles to Austin The State Capital. Are you could just cool it in the Blanco river beautiful clear water to play in

The camping facilities are great at Blanco S P there are 30 & 50 amp FHU sites and sites with water & elect. an a dump. If you are planing on the 4th of July week start geting res. now, just go to Texas Parks and Wildlife. These parks fill up fast for holadays.
Here are some photos of the campground.

There are several other state parks in the hill country that are north of Blanco SP. One is Pedernales Falls SP, east of Johnson City. It's on the Pedernales River.

Also a little farther north is Inks Lake SP, west of Burnett. If you go to this one, go in from the north side as the road in from the south side is very hilly (steep hills) and could be hard to navigate depending on your tow vehicle.

Both of these can be reached by roads off Hwy 281.

Sorry I don't have photos to share. There's also great camping in Bandera, although they are privately owned and well maintained.

X2 on Inks Lake State Park, it is one of our favorites but it is getting harder and harder to get a spot there. We like Kerrville Schreiner park in Kerrville, TX too. 30 and 50 amp sites with full hook-ups are available. Used to be a state park but is now owned and operated by the city and is well maintained.

I retired from Texas Parks & Wildlife and now live very near Inks Lake SP. It is a crown jewel of the state park system.

An alternative to Garner SP is actually right across the river. We stayed at Parkview Riverside for our first "real" camping experience. It was awesome.

Garner SP has added lots of new spaces but like all Texas State Parks, it's hard to get in them. As noted, you have to plan way ahead. We have a hard time planning that far out.

My Husband now works for the Lake Brownwood State Park, and we are planning a trip to Inks. I found it on the Texas Parks & Wildlife website. We are Brand New (used) owners of a 2008 cherokee lite (our 1st trailer) and are kinda staying in the vacinity til we get this trailer thing down. We took it to Brownwood State Park for 8 days on a working vacation and all went well the 1st day til the fridge quite working. Mud dobbers had been flying in and out of the vents, so brilliant me but painters tape over each vent to keep them out. Lesson learned! HAHA Had to go up to the headquarters to get internet access and found that these dominic fridges need plenty of vent. Once I took all the tape off it started cooling again!! We now have screen over all the vents and working great. Any info you can give me lakebucky on Inks would be fabulous. We head out July 22nd with the 2 grandkids 12 & 3 and 3 dogs!

We will check out Blanco when we head to the hill country in the fall. We normally stay at Lady Bird Johnson City Park just outside Fredericksburg and really enjoy it.

It is a must to plan ahead and make reservations with this park as it is one of the most popular state parks. I would camp there but we live only about 5 miles from the park and have the lake across the street from us. The website has so much information on it. I don't know what I could add that is not on the website. Hope you can get the reservations and enjoy!
