Texas State Parks Reservations

When reserving online for Texas State Parks, can you not choose the site # you want?
Thanks, doodler

For the most part no, HOWEVER, there is at least one that does offer site specific reservations and that is Lake Livingston State Park - there may be others, but not really sure.

Edit: Just found this article about the program:

Thanks. I did call Texas State Parks and they said you can reserve a "spot" and then when you get there it is first come first serve. It just guarantees you will have a site.

We ran into the same thing when making our reservation for Galveston Island State Park for Thanksgiving week. We are in the park and then it's first come first served. We have only camped in one Georgia State Park and it was the same way.

Wow that's a terrible policy!! Colorado State parks provide site rentals and we really like that. The one issue we had once was we messed up and reserved a site with just water and a 110 outlet and they let us switch to a full site.

This can be a two edged sword. In Arizona on a trip where you can reserve site specific sites, people who wanted to stay for a week were not able to stay on the same site. It was actually quite comical to watch every day about noon as everyone began playing musical sites. Actually it was sad. We were very lucky to have the same site all week. We had make our reservations very early in the year.

It's also hard to cancel a reservation. I have a one night reservation I need to cancel. I says I can cancel it online but I cannot find a place on their webpage to cancel it.

Cancelling is very easy. Go to texas.reserveworld.com/Home.aspx, click on "Cancel Reservation" at top of screen. Log in and a list of all past, present, and future reservations are listed Look for the reservation you want to cancel and click on "Cancel" on the far right hand column.

You can't reserve any specific site at any of the Georgia State Parks that I am aware of (unless you request a ADA site). Your reservation just guarantee's you a place to camp.

If you made your reservation using the call center then you might have to cancel the same way but it's best/easiest to do everything online

Well, I would rather know I am guaranteed I have a site than not have one at all. I definitely don't like the idea of first come first serve If I drive several hours(with no reservations) Especially on a holiday weekend. I guess I am too used to reserving specific sites. Usually the first time at a CG we walk around with a map and circle the sites we like so next time we know which ones we will reserve.

We do a lot of Tx state parks. When we use one we haven't been to before, we usually drive the place after we check in and, if we find a better spot, we just stop at the park host and they radio the gate and make sure no one has booked that spot. Then all you do is set up camp then go back to the gate and update everything. I find if you come in early on Tuesdays you pretty much have your pick of sites. I usually avoid weekends since I don't like people all that much. And water. Idiots are drawn to water. It's a proven fact. Come to think of it....I need to move to the desert.

Thanks, we would more than likely be arriving on a Friday evening/night after work and most of the time places are pretty well full by then on a holiday weekend. If it wasn't a holiday weekend I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Unfortunately, at that time, you're going to be stuck with whatever's left over. Which park are you going to?

Haven't been there yet. We had reservations in a few months, but my wife got hit head on by a drunk a few weeks ago and we canceled them. Hopefully we can try again sometime later this year. Let us know how it is.

That's horrible! I hope she wasn't hurt too badly and is recovering well.
