Wow, I had just checked on Hwy 12 yesterday morning, and thought it was open. Yes, Hwy 82 would get you into Louisiana. 82 across to Hwy 27, turn north will get you back on track the quickest. Much of it is a nice scenic marsh drive. Watch out for alligators crossing the hwy....really. There is a La Wildlife and Fisheries scenic area just north of Creole that always seems to have gators in the ponds. We used to stop there and let the kids throw bread to the gators. They may have stopped allowing that. Still interesting place.
Also, if you want, keep going west into Abbeville, turn north on Hwy 167 to Lafayette. If you get to Abbeville at meal time, stop at Shucks where you can watch them shelling oysters. Great seafood. Getting through Lafayette can be a little tough certain parts of the day due to traffic, but it's manageable. I've pulled my fifth wheel through Lafayette several times.

Hope this helps.

Yep, that's the route I described above. Should work fine, and see some scenery along the way.

Just to let you know there is a ferry on Hwy 27 at Cameron. That ferry often handles large 18 wheelers so you shouldn't have any trouble, but fyi....

Just remember if the I-10 is closed everyone is trying to find a detour, especially the truckers. If there is a ferry on Hwy 27 it may be closed because of the flooding, if not the backup may be hours and hours. just a thought

Good point. I'll bet the traffic on Hwy 82 and 27 is terrible.

KATC is reporting that with the traffic backup, the delays are longer than using I-20. 82 and 27 are 2 lane paved roads not designed for that amount of traffic.

Glad you made it to Louisiana okay. It definitely has been windy the past couple of days and unfortunately they're forecasting more high winds for tomorrow although out of a different direction.

Lost a hubcap on I-10 in Louisiana headed toward Texas. Road is horrible. Was wondering what shape everything was in the 5er. It survived better than we did LOL

Glad you made it safely through the beautiful state of Louisiana. Sorry for the rough roads. Virtually all La residents would agree with you. The major north south roads are in good shape. But both I-10 and I-20 are horrible. But thats not isolated to Louisiana. We drove to a small town east of Dallas a while back. I-49 to Shreveport is a smooth hwy, but as soon as we hit I-20, it was horrible.

I believe most of the damage is caused by the heavy truck traffic, which has always been worse for E-W hwys vs N-S roads.

But no matter, the bad hwys are definitely hard on campers.
