Travel from Houston to Phoenix for Christmas

So we are going to head to az for Christmas, I think we should make a trip out of it and see some sights. When I get back from offshore thinking zigzag or way there, have made the trip many of times shooting across I10. Looking for ideas. Have a great weekend

You could always hug the coast down to McAllen or Laredo then run the border through Del Rio, Alpine, Marfa, Ft. Davis then to El Paso and my favorite Las Cruces. You have to go to Chopes Bar & Cafe in La Mesa, NM it is the best Mexican food I have ever had.

Maybe head up to Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands, NM then to Cruces for a couple of days.

Cruces to Phoenix is boring and I'd guess you could go up to ABQ and Santa Fe then across to Flagstaff or Silver City and up to 40. Maybe Columbus, Douglas and Tombstone.

Problem is time of the year and like has been said weather. If you're going to take a scenic drive across Texas and NM make sure you have a pretty big fuel tank, places can be pretty far apart.

Google Maps is your friend.
