Traveling through Dallas

We will be heading to Fredericksburg in a week and a half.

Plan to leave around 5 am on Friday from North of Dallas on 75 so the initial trip in the morning shouldn't be too bad.

Wondering about coming home the next Tuesday when it will be mid-afternoon, hopefully before rush hour.

Any thoughts on a route to take at that time, or just stick with 75?

Well, by living in Val Alstyne, you are aware of the traffic and construction on 75. We accidentally had to drive down 75 (southbound) on our way back from Bonham State Park...we missed our turn and it was either find a place to turn around or go on 75. We went on 75. It was close in some spots but we made it. Even made the ridiculously short transition turn from 75 to the GBT as someone was kind enough to let us merge in.

I really don't know of any other way you could go other than Greenville Ave to Hwy 5 (think that's the number) and then up to Van Alystyne but that's a lot of city traffic, a lot of school zones and traffic signals. I think this may be one of those "pick your own poison" type situations but as long as you get there before rush hour, I'm thinking you should be fine.

I did hold my breath and close my eyes (I wasn't driving ... hahahaha) in some of those construction areas where each lane is so skinny. Let us know how it goes

You could take 34 north out of Ennis up to Greenville and catch 69 then cut over.

I'd rather go to Walmart for a root canal than drive through DFW traffic.

Just do the 75 and time it so you hit the southside about 1:30pm

75 is good with proper timing, I would avoid 34 out of Greenville as it is really rough. We went to Fredericksburg in April and took 281 west of Ft Worth. It takes longer than the freeway but less traffic and more to see.

Thanks all. I thought about 281 and still may do that.

Should all go well, I may be able to time 75 for early afternoon return. Just a lot of construction.
