Texas has some nice state parks, one that we used is between Dallas and Texarkana off of the highway, I can't think of the name but it would be easy to fine. Besides it is HOT down there now. We go down for the winter, for the last two years, love it down there.

We were at Canyon Lake and Galveston state park and the lake was down 9 ft. And Galveston state park wasn't much either. The beaches were being controlled to keep the sand contained.Click image for larger version

Terrible shame what the beaches down in Surfside, South of Galveston looked like the day after Memorial day.
We thought the seaweed looked bad, it didn't compare to the tons of garbage the Memorial day crowd brought and left in the sand on the beach.
Looked more like a landfill than a beach Tuesday morning.

Apparently they charge $6 or $7 a car to drive right onto the beach. It should be more like $50 a car. The 6 or 7 bucks won't even pay for the cost of cleaning that disaster up.
We were traveling with someone from California and they were appalled to even learn we allowed vehicles on the beach in Texas. I wonder if we shouldn't re-think that idea.

It was a damned shame.
