Trip to Yellow stone

We are going to take our first long trip next year out west and looking to see if anybody has a good route. Leave Pittsburgh Pa on 76W into Ind 80W and stopping some where in Joliet IL our first night. After that we want to stop at Mount Rushmore KOA for a couple of days, but that is such a long drive from our first stop and we only want to drive about 7hrs, does anybody know a good stop before SD? after we leave MT Rushmore we want to go to the east gate to get to Fisherman Bridge RV and stay there for a couple of days what is best route to there? From there we will be heading to Hills Air Force base In Utah. and then going home. we will probably take about 20 day to this trip, Any help or suggestion? we will be towing or toad.

Ambitious driving! That's about twice as far as I do in a day. There is not much around Joliet. Martin Campground that is convenient to I80 but does not offer much else. The casinos may have RV parking. About an hour further is Starve Rock State Park. Very nice but just electricity this time of year.

Make sure you check Yellowstone as they can have snow this time of year and roads/campgrounds may be closed.

It’s good that you’re planning ahead for your trip to Yellowstone next year. Reservations at Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone fill fast so don’t wait till the last minute to call and reserve a site.

From Mt. Rushmore I’d take I-90 to Buffalo, WY and connect to Hwy 16 and then connect with Hwy 14 to the east park entrance.

Don’t forget that Grand Teton National Park is just 5 miles from Yellowstone’s south entrance and a “must see.”

Couldn't agree more. The Tetons are probably the most beautiful Mountains in America because of the lack of foothills. You stare across beautiful lakes and then BAM, Big Ole Mountains

while you are there take the ferry across Jenny lake and do the Hidden Falls/ Inspiration Point hike (1 mile each way). Its a easy hike to the Falls (.5 miles), then a steeper hike to the point (.5 miles). While we were there last year we saw a black bear on this trail.
