Yeh, the National Park Service has been fighting to change the name from Lakeshore to Park for years. In fact, President Trump initially said he wasn't going to change it to a Park but guess it got slipped in with the signing that ended the Shutdown.
It's nice to have both the State and National Park campgrounds for sure. I usually camp with the camper at the State Park Campground and with my Eureka Tent at the National Park Campground. The State Park is really really nice all the way around it. Trails to the beach and Nature Center and campsites are just beautiful. We always have curious Red Foxes checking us out to see if we have extra food. Racoons are brave as one took my bag of marshmallows under my tent chair, while I was sitting in it. My wife had a laugh as I chased him, he wouldn't drop the bag no matter what!
Yeh, I went back to a Pop Up for so many reasons. I always loved camping in the Pop Ups because they were fully decked out screen houses when the windows were all open. I just loved that especially when having the rear bunkend hang near a lake shoreline.
We went to a Travel Trailer because of the conveniences. First was a Jay Flight 19BH then a 26BH after my daughter was born. Both were the exact same floorplan but with the 26BH adding an additional front bedroom with queen bed. As you can tell, we loved that floorplan even over slide out models.
The bad for the conveniences is I lost a connectivity to the outside that I had with the pop ups. I honestly didn't enjoy camping as much as I did with the pop ups but my wife, who doesn't like camping at all, was much happier with a house on wheels that had every amenity that our own house had.
The 19BH wasn't as bad as the 26BH because we could still fit in campsites that the Pop Ups could. They were pretty much the same size at ~23' long. The 26BH was another 6' at over 29' and didn't fit in the campsites that I really loved, that were secluded. We now had to use the campsites that were out in the open, next to other campers. So no more seclusion or deep wooded sites.
Plus the cost of the travel trailers were expensive especially the 26BH. Caulking was always failing as I did seal tech tests and re-caulking was always expensive along with other repairs I usually needed. Hard to justify the expensive preventive maintenance, repairs, and expensive insurance, when I only got to take the camper out a few times a year.
The Pop Ups should be a lot, and I mean a lot less expensive all the way around. So camping only a few times a year won't feel like a fortune. I also like camping in the Pop Ups more as I don't feel isolated in a house, for which the travel trailer felt like to me.
As we are looking for another house, we didn't find to many that would accommodate storing the 29' travel trailer and I don't want to store off site where it's a pain to get and pack, besides break ins. The Pop Up will fit easily in a garage if need be, and is small enough to park behind a house's front face (City ordinance) if the side yard is big enough.
Also the Pop Up, even as big as it is, feels like nothing on the back of the truck. It doesn't porpoise, pull, or affect the feel of the drive at all. I caught myself forgetting it was back there and going faster than I like to tow. The Jay Flight 26BH even with sway eliminated with the Blue Ox Sway Pro System, still pushed me around as it was one big Sail and moved the vehicle around as one piece with the trailer. It sucked the gas as you would obviously know. Towing the Pop Up, I get at least 5 mpg or even better than towing the Jay Flight 26BH.
Now that the Forest River Factory fixed the major issues, I'm looking forward to the camping season with my 6 year old daughter.
Here's all my campers and tow vehicles. Bought 4 campers new and 6 tow vehicles new. My favorite tow vehicle by far is my current '16 F150. I'm hoping my favorite camper will be the new 2716g Pop up. Here's to hoping!
