We're Leaving

Dang, the low temperature tomorrow morning is predicted to be 10 degrees and we’re going to be hitching up the trailer to head south. Oh well, at least there isn’t any snow on the trailer or the storage lot.

Our first stop will be just south of Memphis, TN in Southhaven, MS at the EZ Daze RV park. Normally we dewinterize at this park but I think we’ll wait and see what the weather is like before we do that. Just across the street from the park is a large RV dealer with a great parts department, a little insurance in case things don’t go as planned.

We plan to leave the next morning and our next stop will at Lakeside RV Park in Louisiana. Then we head to Gulf Shores, AL where we have month long reservations at Island Retreat RV Park. Gulf Shores is one of our favorite places to visit, especially in March.

Be safe and have fun. I would like to get down to the gulf shore this year or next. Would you recommend that campground your staying at?

Actually I would recommend Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores. It’s closer to the ocean and has full hook up sites. It’s really a beautiful state park. The campground was redone after Hurricane Ivan wiped it out in 2004. We go to Island Retreat for the month of March because we know quite a few snowbirds that spend the winter there. It’s always fun to meet up with old friends.

Just get out of town by Friday oakman. I will be thinking of the warm(er) temps you will surely have as I plow the white stuff off the roads this weekend. Please don't tell me you are enjoying your weather until spring please. You can tell everybody else, just not me

Yep, I'm sure I'll get blamed for bringing the cold weather down with me. I think I'll go to one of those tourist T-Shirt shops and have them print up something along the lines of "I survived the Polar Vortex 2014." Maybe they'll have a graphic of a Polar Bear I could put on it too.

Thanks Chris. We didn’t make it to Gulf Shores last year so this will be the first year we show up in our Silverback. No one is going to recognize us without a Wildcat in tow.

You're still a Wildcat at heart. And I'm glad the Silverback is working for you -- Cedar Creek is a great brand and one that I'm glad to recommend to people who are upgrading. But know this -- I'm going to keep them on their toes with new designs and features. They'll always need to work to stay ahead of "little brother" Wildcat! You better keep an eye on us too!

Thanks for all your contributions to this (and other) RV forums... have a great trip!

It's on the Gulf of Mexico near the Alabama/Florida border. There are some beautiful beaches in Gulf Shores. The Polar Vortex even hit them this year. Like DDC said, I'm gonna have to go farther south for real warmth though.

Last year in a conversation about with the owners of a very upscale Monaco motorhome they referred to Gulf Shores as the Redneck Riviera. I felt slightly insulted, but then I thought, if the shoe fits...

That's a fact Chris. We owned two Wildcats over a period of 8 years and have a lot of great memories from our travels with those fifth wheels.
