We plan on staying at the KOA near Lafayette, should be a short drive down to Avery Island and then kick around and eat lunch in St Martinville. Hopefully all the birds will be roosting at Avery Island this time of year.

They should be roosting right now. You should also try Lake Martin if you'd like to see the birds roosting. It a short drive outside of St Martinville.

Just returned from our shake down cruise at Blanco State park with the new Crusader. Went pretty well with some minor issues to be resolved by the dealer later this week:

Next trip Mid-May to Bandera, TX.

Heading to Bandera, TX. in two weeks to finally take advantage of a 'free' camping trip offered when we bought our trailer. Anyone camped at Riverside RV Park? Riverside RV Park, Bandera, TX - Down by the Riverside on the Medina River? Reviews are somewhat mediocre, but hey; two nights free so...

The park is ok. Mediocre fits. But, you've gotta go,into the town and see it! Bandera is THE cowboy capital. There are hitching posts - that are still used - in town. Whether you drink or not, visit Last Chance Saloon. There are many neat shops as well. If you come north, let us know, we live in Horshoe Bay, NW of Austin.

Oddly enough, we're less than 60 miles from Bandera, but rarely head over that way. We'll take you up on the in-town tips... Is there a bike path to town? This will be our second time out in the rig as we get ready for a long-haul this summer in an attempt to escape the heat. Satellite map recon doesn't show BBQ/fire pits on the pad so I guess we can forget the firewood this trip and use the small grill...

We camped at Sunset Point on Lake LBJ last October. That was one of our favorite short journeys. Beautiful area, and we were overdue for home made pie at the Bluebonnet Café.

Just down the road from you a bit on the north side of Canyon Lake. The invitation extends here too..

Much appreciated, argerram

BombDoc,
That's some nice country. I was stationed in Charleston many years ago and we used to go to James and Folly Islands quite often. Wife and I met and got married on the air base there many years ago.

That area was on our short list as we neared retirement. Have fun!

Scratch,
The DW and I both grew up there. Well, I did most of my growing up there. Dad was in the Navy. DW is born and raised there. I lived in the North area when very young and on James Island from 1978-1985 when I joined the Marines. We love Charleston, but settled in Beaufort as family is close but not tooooo close
