We've always stayed at Devil's Lake. Highly recommended.

Most importantly, reservations can be hard to get for electrical so best to plan months ahead.

Once there, its great hiking and the lake is nice. No gas motors allowed.

Its a great SP.

The only dowside is that its about a 30 minute drive to the Dells.

That is news to me.

No gen because its a WI SP, but never had problems with running a/c on an electric site.

Good idea to plan ahead. You can make reservations up to 11 months in advance.

Stayed there a couple days in 2009. In Sept. didn't need an a. c., but can be iffy. Definitely may need in the summer. Wayne

There are two other State Parks near the Dells - Mirror Lake and Rocky Arbor. Access the Wisconsin DNR site:

Wisconsin Explorer Program - WDNR

Triguy is right; it may be difficult to get an electric site at a state park in Wisconsin, especially on a weekend. We have this goofy state law restricting the number of electric sites allowed at state parks. It's antiquated, and was pushed through by the private campground lobbyists so state parks don't compete with private campgrounds. Just my opinion, but I'd rather stay at a state park. Less kids, more trees and more natural settings. There are a ton of private campgrounds in the Dells area, but I don't consider a picnic table in the middle of a field an ideal camp site! Kohler Andrae (Sheboygan; on Lake Michigan) state park recently added about 30 sites and six (6!) of them are electric sites. I think it's a law that needs to be changed, but when going up against a powerful lobbyist group, what can you do? It is what it is.....good luck!!

Its almost impossible to get reservations at some of the more popular state parks.Back in 2009, looking at pennsula State park, it was solidly booked one year in advance. Didn't have any trouble getting reservations at Potawatomi (a Little south). Didn't have any problem getting into Devil's Lake (in September). If you are out of state, they are now charging extra for state stickers, Which if staying 5 days or more is cheaper than the daily pass. Wayne

Stayed at Sherwood Forest back in '09, niece had a wedding at the golf course up the road. Didn't do much but sleep there. If I remember it was right at the end of their season, and they knocked the price down some. Wayne

I've stayed at quite a few state parks, and none of hem have ever said anything about not bring able to ran your air conditioning. But then again, there's a first time for everything.
