People pretty well covered MI & the UP, with one exception, the Houghton City Park and Campground. I'm parked here right now and have been coming here for several years. It's located just west of the lift bridge in Houghton right on the water. The park is a close walk down the waterfront into town and the management is great. Tomorrow we'll be in Chassell watching our grandkids march in the Strawberry Festival.

We have a September "color tour" trip planned and will heading to the Porkies. Lake of the Clouds is an amazing scene when the maples change color. Lots of great day hikes in that area.
I grew up in the LP but have always treasured the times spent in the UP. I could have been a Yupper very easily. My first trip up there we traveled by car ferry before Big Mac was built.
Amazing how we camped back then..... Mom and Dad, five kids and a cottage air tent loaded into a 56 Chevy wagon with a car top carrier. What a great adventure.

It was awesome. The Michigan State Parks have 30 amp power at most all sites. Take plently of mosquito spray.
We are going to head north tomorrow,,, one night @ Tawas Point,,, 2 nights @ Wilderness State Park & 1 Night @ Mitchell State park on the way back home !!! We are trying to see how many Michigan State Parks we can visit,,, have not seen a bad one yet !!!

We just got back from yet another trip to Little Girls Point County Park near Ironwood, MI. It is a quaint little campground of 30 or so sites, most with 30 amp power, right on the shore of Lake Superior. There are mansions on the Lake that do not have the view of a $20 per night camp site at this place. We go back 3 or 4 times each summer.

If your in the UP and looking for a slow day, the collage has "SDC" the Student Development Center. For $5 your kids can use the facility, the younger kids went swimming, played basketball and the 17 year old went to the weight room. They had a great time and we spent the time restocked our food supply and doing laundry.

Glad you got out in time. This was posted this morning.

At this time we are receiving reports of extensive storm damage in the Wakefield area as well as Little Girls Point and Black River Harbor. Lake Rd and Wisconsin 122 are currently impassable. Unless travel in these areas is necessary, please stay in your home. Downed power lines and flash flooding is creating dangerous situations in these areas. Emergency crews are working to access the damaged areas. Roads are very unstable and washed out in areas. Do not drive through water over roadways as the road may be gone. Rescue crews are being mobilized at this time. If you have an emergency please call 911.

Calumet in the Keweenaw peninsula is an interesting stop. It's an old copper mining town from the heyday of copper. Some really impressive architecture.
In Door county, Wi., Penninsula playhouse and another local theater in Egg Harbor, I believe, is a decent amusement. We have always included a stop at Gill's Rock for smoked fish at Charlie's and Bea's for a pie.
