If you end up at a state park, Devils Lake is pretty popular.

Devils lake is also beautiful, as well as Mirror Lake State Park, but no water at Wi State Park Campgrounds, only a place to fill your waer tanks. However, the facilities at Mirror Lake, as well as Devils Lake are very nice and clean. Large new bathrooms and shower houses a Mirror Lake. Nor sure about Deils Lake if they have the new facilities. If you are looking for a site by Green Bay, Bayshore County Park is right on the water, north of Green Bay, near Sturgeon Bay. water and Elec at every site, clean, beautiful, and within a short distance to Door County.

No ones has mentioned the KOA. I googled it, Wisconsin Dells KOA says it's 1 miles from Dells Attractions and entertainment, but if you read between the lines, 1 mile from attractions not necessarily the Dells themselves. They do offer full hookups and have several activities for kids. It might be a good choice. Sounds like it's off the road a bit, so it should be quiet.

The KOA in the Dells has a very active Amtrak train track next to the park. If this would not bother you, with the noise level, it is a nice camground.

Huh... wonder why they don't mention that on their website.

Then again, we have an active train about 15 houses away from us. Since there is no crossing, they don't blow a whistle and it just moves on by. You ddo hear the rumble, although it's not bad.

Glad you pointed it out though, that is important to note.

Holiday shores is nice. The full hookups are in a newer section with small trees so no shade for a few years. Located on the wisconsin river and you can rent a boat and check out the upper dells. It is a bit outside of town, but not too far.

It may have been the time of year that we visited but the bugs were horrendous. My advice.... bug spray.

Whenever we went to the Dells we stayed at Mirror Lake State park. Close to the action of the Dells but yet removed enough to give you some peace and quiet. We used the campground showers/bathrooms to conserve on water but it was worth it. Like all Wisconsin Parks they fill up quickly but Mirror Lake does have some non-reservable sites. Fishing was good off the fishing pier and they rent boats.
