Wisconsin dells camping advice

Looking for advice on campgrounds in the dells. Must be full hookups, so it appears state parks are out.

Prefer something that feels like camping, not a parking lot. Good for families.

Ideas?

Will be next August.

Jeep, we stayed here last year.
http://www.merrymacscampground.com/
We enjoyed it and there's a lot of things for kids to do.
Its out of the dells a little bit but the drive didn't seem far at all.
We would stay there again.

We are interested in visiting the Dells next year too. Love the Dells, yet it's been years we've camped there and are looking for full hook-ups as well. It appears as though Merry Macs Campground does not have sewer connections, so the search continues.

They have a dump when you leave station.

We camped there for 4 days and three nights with 5 of us with out dumping.

You're lucky to have the larger holding tanks.

wow - 3 grey tanks?!? Even with 2 - we can only go 2 days with showers. Or one day if I don't turn the hot water off when my daughter is in there....

Why do the Wisconsin State Parks not offer full hook up?

Anyone familiar with Stand Rock?

I live not too far from the Dells. Stand Rock is nice. Jellystone is nice, crowded, crazy with kids, full hookups. Holiday Shores, as well as Arrowhead. Sherwood Forest is also one. There are a couple that are right in the heart of the Dells, but are all pavement, on the highway. Do not think that is what you are looking for.

We were just at Jellystone in the Wi dells. We do not recommend it at all. The traffic noise was so bad from the hwy and it was constant. My ears rang after we left. Pool area was ok, but constantly crowded. We went into the dells to mini golf because they wanted too much for a crappy 9 hole course. Staff was not very friendly and the whole weekend kids only saw yogi once. For the price it was not worth it.

If you end up at a state park, Devils Lake is pretty popular.

Devils lake is also beautiful, as well as Mirror Lake State Park, but no water at Wi State Park Campgrounds, only a place to fill your waer tanks. However, the facilities at Mirror Lake, as well as Devils Lake are very nice and clean. Large new bathrooms and shower houses a Mirror Lake. Nor sure about Deils Lake if they have the new facilities. If you are looking for a site by Green Bay, Bayshore County Park is right on the water, north of Green Bay, near Sturgeon Bay. water and Elec at every site, clean, beautiful, and within a short distance to Door County.

No ones has mentioned the KOA. I googled it, Wisconsin Dells KOA says it's 1 miles from Dells Attractions and entertainment, but if you read between the lines, 1 mile from attractions not necessarily the Dells themselves. They do offer full hookups and have several activities for kids. It might be a good choice. Sounds like it's off the road a bit, so it should be quiet.

The KOA in the Dells has a very active Amtrak train track next to the park. If this would not bother you, with the noise level, it is a nice camground.

Huh... wonder why they don't mention that on their website.

Then again, we have an active train about 15 houses away from us. Since there is no crossing, they don't blow a whistle and it just moves on by. You ddo hear the rumble, although it's not bad.

Glad you pointed it out though, that is important to note.

Holiday shores is nice. The full hookups are in a newer section with small trees so no shade for a few years. Located on the wisconsin river and you can rent a boat and check out the upper dells. It is a bit outside of town, but not too far.

It may have been the time of year that we visited but the bugs were horrendous. My advice.... bug spray.

Whenever we went to the Dells we stayed at Mirror Lake State park. Close to the action of the Dells but yet removed enough to give you some peace and quiet. We used the campground showers/bathrooms to conserve on water but it was worth it. Like all Wisconsin Parks they fill up quickly but Mirror Lake does have some non-reservable sites. Fishing was good off the fishing pier and they rent boats.
