Xmas adventure to Florida

Should be interesting, leaving tonight in 25-35mph NW winds. The scene as it is now, truck and camper full of snow and ice. 6 hours to Louisville tonight.

I have a 2011 F250, CC, XLT, diesel, RWD, longbed, and I use 2.5 gal per 5,000 miles, $10.99 at Walmart, easy to use box.

I have a 2012 Ram 3/4 ton with the Cummins 6.7L diesel engine and it doesn't require def. I was told (unofficially) that Ram did some jiggeling with the performance numbers and got away without having to use def.

Can you tell me what is def fluid? I guess I have never used it, because I do not know what it is. Is it for cleaning injectors or anti gel ? .......

D.E.F. is.. diesel exhaust fluid...it is added to help clean the emisssions ..my truck doesnt smell like a diesel at the tailpipe..i have a seperate filler tube (blue in color).. next to the ultra low diesel fuel (green) filler cap..both behind the fuel door on the drivers side...from what i saw on a video... it seems the best thing for me to do is...wait until i get a "1/2 full" warning message ..then add 2 gallons of def to the def tank... which ..on my truck.. has a 5 gallon capacity ..hope this helps.

Have you ever filled the def with a bulk pump at a fueling stop ?? There is a truck stop..near me.. called "The Detroiter".. that sells bulk def.. for $ 2.79 a gallon

$2.79 is a good price for DEF as it is $10.99 per 2.5 gal at Walmart. In addition to the smell, it also helps it run less nosiy. My 2011 F250 with the diesel, holds 5.3 gal
of DEF and when it gets down to 1/2 of that, a warning light comes on and I add 2 and 1/2 gal. My experience is that I use 2 and 1/2 gal per 5,000 miles.

I had seen a video about filling your def tank .they suggest putting in 2 gallons at the "1/2 full " level...IF.. you are in a area where... there could be a hard freeze...for expansion...so it doesnt damage the tank..

Arrived in Decatur, Alabama at point mallard park. Sunny skies about 48degrees. Very little wind today, easy pull, average fuel economy since leaving Chicago last night 11.5mpg, diesel fuel 3.89/gal in Alabama. So far, everything is functioning, keep my fingers crossed on that.

I paid $2.69 a gallon at the local Murphys (WalMart) about a week ago and yesterday the price was $2.99 at the same station.

Arrived about 1:30. Weather overcast and 60's, 27 In Chicago, so can't complain. Mini Xmas tree setup, a little more work needs to be done outside, after a beverage....
