1/2 shelf above kitchen sink

Above our kitchen sink in our 2012 Forester is a cupboard. The top shelf is only 1/2 the depth of the cupboard. It has no lip to stop things from falling off. What do you carry on yours?

Our 2012 Forester has a half shelf in the cabinet above the stove...it does have a lip.
I bought plastic baskets that just fit up there, this is where I store plastic forks, knives, spoons and anything light weight.

Could you buy a thin strip of molding to make a lip?

The cabinet above our sink does not have a shelf...I was thinking of asking hubby to make a half shelf in that one.

Our 2012 don't remember if the half shelf has a lip or not but I got a short spring curtain rod and put it along the length of it. Stops things from falling down.

I got Sterlite plastic baskets that fit perfectlywhen they sit sideways . They are white with perforated holes in the sides. We put paper plates, travel mugs, the coffee carafe when traveling up there.
