VWExpert-Noticed that those service alerts were 20 years old. Interesting

Jim, we hope to get this resolved before show season rolls around.

Sage, Yes I know they are old files...but like I said it's an interesting read about drivelines, angles, shaft speed, etc. I found it amazing how complicated the driveline is. I can now understand how a problem (vibration) can start and how complicated it could be to resolve.

Chassis Vibration Issue

Received this response to a query I sent to MORryde yesterday:

Thanks for your letter and question about the 2016 Ford chassis. I'll do my best to share information with you. Let me start by telling you that MORryde does not perform the chassis alterations for Forest River as i believe they use a sister division. MORryde does perform chassis alterations for other OEM's which has given us insight to the industry wide issue on the 2016 Ford chassis.

The 2016 Ford chassis featured several changes and an unintended effect has been a vibration and various sounds in the chassis. the most common vibration occurs in the 58-63 mph speed. Ford has been working with the industry for the past 2 months to identify the root cause and solutions to address the vibration. In addition, some OEM's have been working independently to find acceptable solutions. Ford has been conducting conference calls twice a week to share information with the builders. As of this date, Ford has identified the type of vibration that is occurring but has not provided OEM's with a corrective solution. They have assured the industry they are working on solutions but have not provided a date we can expect a solution.

As I indicated, MORryde does perform chassis alterations and works with other OEM's on their chassis. We are currently working closely with Thor Motors on a potential solution for the issue. Thor has contracted with an independent consultant and the combination of the consultant and MORryde's engineers has proven very promising. We have been working on potential solutions for the various chassis wheel base lengths that are used in the industry. The solution involves a combination of driveline angle adjustments and driveshaft balancing which is then proved out with instrumentation and test drives. We are very encouraged as a solution has been identified for a good number of different wheel base lengths. We are now working to apply the solution to even more chassis wheelbases. the test drives have proved successful and Thor has now released units for shipment to dealers. In addition, new units are being produced with the "fix" in place.

I too placed an order in mid June with an approximate quoted delivery of mid-August on a GTS 2431 S. Had planned to pick up in Ohio and drive back to WA state. At this point the weather as well as continuing shorter daylight is causing me have second thoughts. And I thought that (finally) being retired was going to be fun

I also contacted Jack @ MORryde earlier this week. I received the same letter.

I had a nice conversation yesterday with a guy at another manufacturer who seemed quite knowledgable on the subject.

what I took away from the conversation with this gentlemen was that although they are expecting a solution from Ford very soon for the dealers that already have their product on the lots, perhaps the better solution may require some re-engineering at the Ford plant and would be implemented on the chassis builds going forward. He said the issue doesn't make it unsafe to drive, just an annoying hum. told me that they had ramped down production on their Class C assembly line at the moment. I even asked him if it would be wise to hold off on ordering their product right now (of course I didn't tell him we had ordered a FR) and he said, honestly if it were him, he would wait.

so I guess the big question for those of us with units that have been built and ready to be delivered (or even those with units about to be built) on this present version of the 2016 chassis, are you ok with just an "acceptable" solution? (or "fix" in quotation marks as morryde put it)

VWExpert, I'm keeping my fingers cross for you, hoping for an easy solution since your MH is already built.

I'm Waiting Too

Hi,

I am waiting word as well. I ordered a 2861DS and it was suppose to be back from paint yesterday. I'm curious if this problem varies across the different models with different wheelbases. I assume there are some differences between my model with a 202" wheelbase and the larger units with a 220" wheelbase.

I ordered the unit to get the options I wanted. There is nothing from the 2 LA area dealers that comes close to what I wanted.

I am going to Ohio to pick it up when ready. Hopefully they get it fixed correctly and I don't have to pick it up in a blizzard!

Oh, I enjoy the forum and have been cherry-picking information for months. Thanks to everyone for the great info!

sdgscott- I would think they are going to work on the popular wheelbase first like the 158" and 220". Your model 2861DS and mine 2701DS seem to be the less popular. Hopefully it's a fix for all and quick. We got lucky that our dealer had our model in stock.
How are you picking yours up back east, did you order from a dealer back there? You are going to drive it back here to CA and then register it?

I ordered it through RV Wholesalers in Ohio. Not only were there no models available in So Cal with the options I wanted, the best price here was $8-10,000 more, with fewer options (no jacks, no paint). Worth driving to Ohio to pick it up. This also saves me the delivery charge.

I had my Jeep Liberty set up for towing and plan on driving it out and towing it back. I love road trips.

SDGScott, my issue was buying from a dealer close,no one wants to service what they haven't sold. Even FR suggests buying local for that reason.
I hope they resolve this quick now that Thor is shipping.

SDGScott, coming from AZ, I also purchased from RVWholesalers for all the same reasons. Personally, I can't say enough great things about my experience dealing with them, great people.

I agree. So far it has been great. I too got the story about "we only service RV's we sell" from two local dealers. One is about a mile from my house, and the other in Los Angeles is one of the largest in the country. Neither one have a great reputation for service, so that was not my concern. I was more interested in saving at least 10 grand.

I came to the conclusion that independent repair shops was the way to go, and RV Wholesalers depends on them for helping their customers get service around the country. There are several independent RV repair shops in my area that have good reputations, so I am not worried about repairs. The one I plan on using has about a 4 to 5 day backlog, and does warranty repair work for everyone, including Forest River.

Now if I can only get behind the wheel...

The "double secret probation" meeting - How to deal with "trouble makers" on the forum.
Seriously, I was told there is a meeting every Monday to discuss current issues. My salesman said they would be contacting him today or early tomorrow morning on the status of my coach.
I asked to have someone at the factory to take a HD picture of my coach so I can have it blown up so we can sit next to it at the campground this weekend.

Thanks guys!

I guess I'll hear something in the next few days.

Gio, any idea on how long fixes take?
