2020 3010ds with 2 ACs?

I just looked and the new 2020 3010ds has the option for 2 ACs. I have a 2019 do you think i would be able to add the second AC aftermarket? Just wondering if I should push the wife to trade in.
Thanks!

The problem with any after market additions is running all of the associated wiring in proper places, not only for beauty but ease of connection to power. Even in AZ at Lake Havasu, we have found one 15K AC unit to be enough. The secret for us has been to run the regular vehicle AC on High to help out, then shut it down and maintain with the coach AC.

It says it’s still 30amp. Has “electric shedding technology “

Probably like Jayco with 2 smaller units.

Where did you see the 2nd AC option?

Electric Shedding technology is another name for power management when you have a 30a service.

In simple terms, it has a device that will run one A/C and then shut it down so it can run the 2nd, alternating between the two so to speak. (but not both at once)

Thank you for that information! Definitely would be better if you could run both at the same time. But i guess they would have to go to 50A to get that done.

I have used 30 amp to run 2 A/C's when 50 amp wasn't available for many years. Usually they use 24 to 28 amps running both. Just have to shut one down in evening or at other times when you need other big draw devices like microwave etc.

I agree. Would want the wiring hidden and run appropriately. We are currently in Disney. Hot and humid (90+ degrees and 90+% humidity). 15k having a hard time keeping up with heat during the day.

The 2 x AC factory option uses 2 11K BTU units not the 13.5K or 15K units that are available with a single AC build coach.

To add a second AC and not overload the 120 volts system you would need to also replace the existing AC unit. Of course as has been mentioned the power and T-stat wiring will be a issue to conceal easily.

Using the 11k AC units allows them to operate at the same time on a 30 Amp electrical system.

I think you misinterpreted my reply. I have had 2 A/C's. Merely stating can run both with 30 amp when 50 amp not available. Been doing it for 30 years!!

You can run one 15K K and one 13.5K A/C's on 30 amp when 50 amp is not available. Just don't run many other things without shutting one down. Been doing it for years!!

DW's cousin had an 06 Bounder with 2 AC's and 30 amps. Had an electrical management system that allowed both to run but not start at the same time. It would shed other devices if needed.

A friend spends a lot of time in southern AZ, set up for weeks at a time, and wanted an additional one. He just went to WalMart and got a 6K/BTU residential window mount one for $200 and plugs it into the shore power post 110VAC receptacle. Simple plywood adapter and he's good. Gotta love cheap rednecks!!

This is the Electrical Engineer. You can most certainly run 2 A/C's at once. That was the whole point of my design. The shedding system is if you were to try and run the microwave, water heater...etc...etc....it will keep your coach from blowing the 30 amp breaker. I do want to make this clear though - YOU CAN CERTAINLY RUN BOTH A/C's at once, and IT IS GREAT! Also sir, you should most certainly ask your wife to trade up!!!

2 A/C's at the SAME TIME

Hello all,

This is David. I am the electrical engineer at Forest River Class 'C' motorhomes. The rumors are true. We do NOW OFFER 2 A/C's on 30 AMP service with a shedding system. You can also run BOTH A/C UNITS AT THE SAME TIME! The shedding system is great. It monitors your amperage usage and keeps your coach right at, or below 30 amps, ensuring you do not have nuisance tripping of breakers. We are using 2 Dometic High Efficiency A/C units and they work great. I just recently started here last year at Forest River. Purdue Graduate and this is my 'First Project' so to speak. I back it up 110% and having a fully capable A/C in the bedroom is a great luxury on those hot nights. It really is a neat set-up and the EMS computer module gives you a constant read-out of your amperage being used. It also has a generator mode if you decide to run that as well. The whole point....cool customers down without having to go to the breaker box every 5 minutes. If you have any questions please don't hesitate. I just joined the Forum today because I saw someone say "You can not run both at the same time". This is incorrect and I wanted to make everyone aware of that. We now offer 2 A/C units - and they can both run at the same time!!
Best,
David (Electrical Engineer - Forest River Class 'C' motorhomes. Elkhart, IN

Welcome David! Great to have a Forest River EE active on the forum again. JAMiller45 helped me considerably several years ago.
Any more info available on your load shedding design? Does it use the networked control system to turn devices on and off, it is it independent of that system? Does it depend on the high efficiency AC units you mentioned? Related, can it be retrofitted to earlier Motorhomes?

Again, welcome aboard!

Hey there!!

Greetings. We are using Precison Circuits EMS shedding system. It is AWESOME! IF YOU ever have an opportunity to get a Precison Circuits device, I HIGHLY recommend it. It reads current through the main sensor at the distribution center. The main neutral is what is being constantly monitored. This helps the RV customer in so many ways. If you ever wanted to know what a specific appliance' s amperage consumption it tells you. It is constantly monitoring your entire RV'S AMPERAGE consumption. It will never let your coach get above 30 AMPS. There are 5 things we shed.
1) Water Heater
2) Bedroom A/C
3) Bedroom A/C fan
4) Front A/C
5) Microwave.

It allows you to confidently operate RV without worry of nuisance tripping. It even does the same functions on generator mode. And the greatest part is when you are done using the appliance that caused a shed....that appliance will automatically resume in 2 minutes. Let's say you shed the bedroom A/C while you use the microwave. As soon as the microwave use is finished it begins a 2 minute countdown. Once that is finished the bedroom A/C automatically comes BACK ON!!!
