Is it possible? just about anything is possible? The question is...is it practical?
You couldn't bring the slide in without doing something with the mattress. Maybe a better solution is to put a 6" foam block at the head of the bed where your pillow is (rarely lay all the way up at the headboard). That's much easier to pull out when you need to bring the slide in.
