3051S Slide jammed...what do I do? - Page 3

Any thoughts at all on how that damage occurred? Does not look like any scrapes on outside leading to the hole.

Possible they do a temp fix while they await the parts ? and so you could still go on your vacation ?

Well, they said they could do a temporary repair, but we decided just to push our trip a little farther into the future and get them started on the real repair as soon as possible. We really can't figure out how this happened. It obviously didn't occur while the slide was in and we were driving. Something had to really impact it from below while the slide was out. Also, I don't see how that this would have kept that side of the slide from moving in when I tried to retract the slide. ?????? This is the side that didn't move, while the other side (front) tried to move in. I don't know if we will ever figure this one out.

My problem is a little different but none the less a problem? I have a Salem Lite with the dining room slide. When I try to put it out or in, both motors engage and then one will stop and if I don't stop pushing the button it will become twisted and jam?. I have learned to stop and go the opposite direction for just a second and can get both motors to turn back on and finish the out or in. I lubricated the rails with a fine grease which I have been told by Lippert to remove. he said it is causing it to skip a gear and that is why it is uneven. I removed all the grease on the rails with simple green and a brush but it still does the same thing. It does not slip on any gears one motor just stops on it's own either left one or right one like they are not synced up. Considering all the other things I have found that was not installed properly I am thinking the brain needs to be reset? I am going to remove shore power and disconnect the battery for a few minutes to see if I can reset the computer in it. Any other suggestions I would appreciate.

Have you ever looked at the bottom of that slide before now???
Is it possible the hole is damage from before you took possession?
Maybe you bought it like that and just now discovered it?

No, I don't think so. We bought it new direct from the factory and I have looked under the slide numerous times before. I looks like something jabbed it from below.

Jim,

My new RV had a similar repair done prior to us picking it up. Unless your positive, that damage may had been done at the factory ! I noticed the repair and pointed it out to RVW for documentation, and pictures, before leaving.

That is an extremely strange place for an upward impact to occur!

What's below that part of the slide when it's in? Stabilizer/leveler?

The only thing that I know of that's below is just the floor of the bedroom.

My first guess would be one of those slide levelers you see advertised to help support the slide while it is out. Not saying it was from you guys but that would be my first guess from looking at the damage.

Another thought would be someone using a jack to lift the slide.

We don't have slide levelers..I can only figure that something happened at our last RV park while we were gone. We came directly home from our last trip, parked in our driveway and then a few days later tried to put the slide in and it jammed. Took it to CW and that is what they found. This will be a mystery forever it looks like.

Well, after a long wait for a new slide bottom panel from Forest River, we finally got our Forester back from Camping World. They had to completely remove the slide, take all the interior appliances, dinette, bed, etc out and completely re-construct the slide to replace the damaged floor panel. Fortunately, our insurance paid for the repair (almost $10,000) except for our $500 deductible. Still no idea how this happened..I guess it will always be a mystery. Camping World did a super job of repair and also gave me some pointers on moving the slide in and out. Evidently, When the slide got cocked and jammed, I did not hold the slide switch on long enough after the slide stopped, so the motors did got get synced. I had been counting to about 8 before releasing the switch and I possibly rushed the count the last time I moved the slide out. Anyway, they told me that give it about 15 seconds to make sure...it will not damage the system. Live and learn

Good news Jim. Sounds like you're back on the road again. It's discouraging when the RV is held hostage in prime camping season, isn't it?

In our case the MH was left off at dealer on 7/11, and we picked it up on Oct 4. The dealer had to order the rear slide rack assembly (upper and lower) and the motor to repair it. Lots of problems at the dealer and at FR in ordering and fulfilling the order.

A secondary issue that we had was the slide topper. As you know the 3051 has a full side slide. The slide topper is so long that it has a midpoint support roller. That support roller was defective which caused recurring damage to the slide topper awning material. FR covered awning material replacement in the 1st year warranty. Then the same damage occurred within the following 8 months. This time FR agreed to replace the entire awning assembly. And you guessed it, lots of problems and delays in the parts order / fulfillment process.
Bottom line, MH held hostage for parts and repair for about 12 weeks of prime summertime camping season. But.... that's behind us now, and we're back on the road again.
