3170 Couch Swap
First Disclaimer. I ant't rep'ing or selling anything. Wanted to post a major mod to our 2014 3170DSF Sunseeker. This is our most expensive mod to date.
I want to thank everyone on this forum for their successful couch replacements. It gave me the confidence to do this. Thank You.
After 4 years of ownership and enjoying our Sunseeker DW and I wanted a better couch. After looking, reading, talking, well y'all know the drill, we finally bit the bullet and purchased a replacement reclining couch and replacement dinette cushions from Shop4seats.com. They ain't cheap but we did plan and save up for this.
The seat belts were preserved and useable, not that they are used much.
It will not recline fully because I wanted the front support on the slide box for better anchoring as the frame was 1/2 off the slide box. It still reclines, just not as much. It is acceptable. I still need to cover the black rubber. I will think on that mod.
Removal of the old couch took us about 1 hour. We moved the new couch into the RV using a red wagon. Cudos to DW who thought of the little red wagon. Yep, belongs to GK's.
I removed the small leg buttons so the frame would be flat down on the carpet and reduced the seat height by 1/2".
I purchased 8 1/4" lag bolts and fender washers for anchoring to the slide box. The anchors went down well and are tight.
Just finished today. Total time for DW and I about 6 Hours.
It fells well and seems comfortable. Time will tell.
A series of pictures.

3170 Couch Swap
The couch is DeLeon model and the dinette is the Livingston. 68" is what we got. It is little shorter than the original. The 70" only had 1/4" to spare. With the assembly method, glad we got the shorter one.
We have a small table we use at the end of the couch, between the couch and drivers chair, we let that set the location. The small table fits much better now.

My wife and I like recliners but have kept our couch because of needing the extra bed once in awhile. I've never seen recliners that look like a couch like what you have here. Really nice. Might be a dumb question, but do they recline enough to go flat and become a bed? I'm doubting it, but just looks like it possibly could.

So I found that model online and definitely won't turn into a bed.

3170 Couch Swap
No bed. That is the reason we got a 3170, everyone has a bed. We never use the couch or dinette as a bed. We had actually thought about taking out the dinette, putting the couch there and finding a small bistro style table with 2 chairs for the slide box. DW did not want to lose the storage.

Very nice. What is the weight difference between the old and new couche? DW and I find the jackknife couch very hard and uncomfortable, but I am concerned about adding weight to the slide.

3170 Couch Swap
I do not know the weight of the old couch but, the new couch is heavier and it was a consideration. The shipping weight of the new couch was 210lbs. I figured packing material and box at 10 lbs.
I would estimate the old couch at 80lbs so, the additional weight is 120lbs. We removed 40 lbs of goods from under the couch so no now the additional weight is 80lbs.
Dog weighs in at 30 lbs, so she will not be allowed to ride the slide. LOL. Seriously, the slide operates as it did before as best I can tell.
Be advised, all of this are gross estimates. Maybe Joshau can chime with the weight of the old couch or with comment.
Hope this helps. If I have any trouble with the slide, I will post.
I did post slide problem but, that was before the couch swap.

Was researching for other info and thought I would provide an update. The couch replacement is still doing well. The additional weight has caused no issues. I have not seen any wear on the racks or gears. Been over a year with lots of in's and out's. Dog now rides the slide, after all, gotta keep DW and doggie happy.

We are really wanting to do this, but just want to make sure that we do it correctly.
Thanks,

The bolts are wood lag bolts with fender washers. The slide base is made of 1"x1" alum tubing frame with plywood top and bottom. The bottom Has a laminate. As far as I know, there are no services running thru the slide base.
When you remove your existing couch, you will find only 4 short lag bolts holding down the couch. So what ever you do, will be better than what you have.
When You remove the couch, you will expose mechanical components to the slide. I purchased 5" wide rubber from Amazon and with the slide in, attached it to the slide box letting it hit the floor with self tapping sheet metal screws.
My couch did hang over the front a bit so I went back and added 1"x1" angle. Probably not necessary.
Some how by adding the links, I may have blown up the thread. I apologize for the thread
